Jun 16, 2013 - I'm Back
So it as been a while hasn't it? To me it feels like I've been in Greece for like 3 weeks when in reality it's only been one. But the wifi is on right now in our building so I'm going to just have to run with it and hope my connection doesn't quit mid-post. If it becomes a problem I'm going to simply type my post out in an email and send it to mom so she can post it. I'm also going to send her pictures to post as well unless some miracle happens and I can start posting them from here. So let's get down to business. I told you guys about my...

Jun 15, 2013 - Leaving Greece
Flying over the Sporades islands on our way to Athens, and then the amazing olive orchards mixed with vineyard, it is real......time to leave Greece. I can't believe how emotional I am. But it is no wonder really, this is an amazing place. Unlike any other I have been to. The feeling is the same as other trips here years ago, I am just better equipped to recognize it and put it in to words. Greece opens its ancient, strong arms to welcome everyone. There is a soulfulness here that reaches in to your core and holds on tight. It is...

Jun 10, 2013 - Skiathos
Wow Skiathos is amazing! A quick 40 minute prop plane ride from Athens. It is known for being green and it is, covered in pine trees. Our hotel is unbelievable. It is built into a hillside and we are at the top! Our room has a loft so Les is excited to have her "own room" Only downside is 137 steps to get up here, great glut workout! Hotel owns a restaurant down the road several other tavernas in neighborhood . We are 6 miles from Skiathos town and the port. It is so laid back and the people are wonderful. Oh and the food...... Fresh...

Jun 9, 2013 - Day 2 Athens, finally we meet friends!!
Lots of swimming today. Also went to Acropolis museum which is amazing. They actually built it over some ruins and have a see through floor so you are walking over them looking down. Kinda freaked me out but Leslie loved it. Great film with the history and computer generated depictions of how destruction has proceeded over time and then the restoration. Leslie leaned over and whispered,"wow mom it's amazing how special this is" . A proud mommy moment for sure, she is really into history, taking it all it, taking lots of photos and asking...

Jun 8, 2013 - Bye Bye Berlin.
Guess what? I made it to Athens! Finally. We did a lot of stuff today and my brain has been struggling to keep up with my lack of sleep so I'm going to try my hardest to remember everything from yesterday. It doesn't seem like I was in Berlin 24 hours ago. It feels like I've been traveling for 3 days. It's like that. Well, here goes nothing. I have no idea what time I woke up. Probably around 10 or 11. Who knows? I ate breakfast with Till who didn't have school. After breakfast I took a shower. Till waited for me and then we went to the...

Jun 8, 2013 - Day 1 Athens
Our first day in Athens got to our hotel around 6:30 pm. Royal Olympic Hotel was beyond my expectations!!! The people here are so very nice! The location is obviously great, one block to the Plaka ( old town) and lots of touristy shopping, and also the Acropolis museum, and 5 minute walk to acropolis. There is something so soulful and romantic about this city, you can feel it in your bones. Why oh why has it taken me 20 years to get back here?? After dinner walked the Plaka and on food shop had wine tasting and the winemaker was there for...

Jun 8, 2013 - Athens Day #1
Alright let's pick up where we left off with the last post. I think I had just talked about my flight with Air China. I got off my flight and fought to claim my luggage then met up with my group. We hopped on the metro for a 30 minutes ride into the city. We made one line change and then we walked to our hostel where we are staying. We got divided up intro groups and put into rooms. I took pictures of my room so I will post them on Facebook. It's pretty nice. We have a balcony and everything. My roomates are pretty funny. One of them is...

May 18, 2013 - Navy in Greece (a cultural tour)
Hello all, It’s me again J In this email, I will let you know about the cultural side of my trip to Greece. As mentioned in my previous email, the 2 most well-known archaeological sites in Greece are Acropolis and Ancient Olympia. Acropolis was built approximately 2500 years ago, imagine how hard it must have been to carry those big stones and marbles at that time when people had no cars or machinery to help them. Here you will see a photo of me in front of Parthenon. The Parthenon was built in honour of Athena and inside it had a very big...

May 17, 2013 - Navy in Greece - Max's traveling teddy
Dear Mr Boutin, Max and all classmates, Before leaving Europe to cross the Atlantic, I thought of treating myself to a much-deserved break in a Mediterranean country, Greece. You may have heard a lot about Greece recently in the news, most of which related to the crisis and the weak economy. What you may not know is that Greece has amazing beaches, many beautiful islands, yummy food, many archeological places and warm weather at this time of the year (not too hot for a Northener like me). My trip coincided with the Greek Orthodox Easter,...

May 14, 2013 - The Greek Island - Ios
14 May Blue Ferry to the Greek Island of Ios Up early and a short walk (150m) back to the train station, this time heading for Pireaus.- the port. Only a short trip. Thank you to our Greek Angel (another story). Easy walk from Piraeus train station to the Blue Ferry which we’d booked on the internet. No hassles. We had comfortable, large aircraft type seats to catch up on some sleep plus a great cafeteria and an outdoor coffee area for our 7 hour journey to Ios, via Pyros and Naxos. Our accommodation for 5 nights – the Dionysis Hotel...
