Nov 25, 2020 - Last days in Greece

Before I write about our new adventure I’d like to provide some stats of our Summer 2020 cruising the Aegean, once Covid 19 restrictions were lifted. Since 1 June we’ve travelled 1437 nM’s of which 47% was under sail. Our average speed was 4.7 knots and our longest passage was 120 nM in 24 hours. Highlights were Leros (loved it, especially Lakki), Armagos (especially the beach bar). Mykonos, the beautiful anchorage on the south east Pelopennese, Momenvasia and wonderful sunsets. Low points were Meltemi (especially coming in to Batsi), not...

Sep 15, 2017 - Preveza, mainland Greece (day #2)

Good morning to our second day in Preveza. Jacques and Marina had a lot of things to do today, so an extra here is necessary. ##photo=Preveza map (day #2)## . Obviously this is still our map, and we will not change until tomorrow. When going topside, I was surprised to see three sails pread out all ovewr the deck. "Still very wet from the storm, 1 week before." Jacques said, as I learned quizzically at the sail piles. To my utter surprise, I looked off our starboard side, and saw a large, classic Fed. Ship moored sideways against the pier....

Sep 14, 2017 - Preveza, mainland Greece (day #1)

Today we began our journey at 7:00a.m. The earliest for this year, so far. We have spent the last month cruising in the lower part of the Ionian, just North of the Western entrance of the Gulf of Corinth. Some of the places are repeated from previous trips, while other areas have been new and will be added to my "favorites in the Ionian". ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Before going further, this is just an FYI for the future voyages of MILENA. The first, and most important Is: Milena will...

Sep 19, 2016 - The lunatics running the asylum

Well it was only a matter of time before we needed to activate our E111 at the local state hospital in the small town of Preveza due to a slip in a small ferry boat and a broken wrist. The captain thought I had had too much to drink when I threw up with shock and doused me with a full bottle of water to 'revive' me. Chances of a compensation claim succeeding in the Greek courts before I die? Nil. So far so run of the mill but without a working knowledge of modern Greek, Preveza's A and E posed a challenge on a Saturday night, a classic case...

May 12, 2015 - Day 4 : Preveza Greece

After the storm yesterday, the day started with bright blue skies and we headed off for a morning swim at Anti Paxos. Clear blue waters and no snorkel needed! Anti Paxos is relatively uninhabited and the smaller island to Paxos. From Anti Paxos we headed further down the Greek coast 20 miles to Preveza. After motoring for a while, the wind came up and we had a lovely sail. The boat handles very well and was a joy to sail. In order to get into Prevaza, there is a channel to navigate with shallow waters either side. As we went up the...

Apr 30, 2011 - >> Start 2011: Preveza
