Mar 31, 2019 - Exploring the Pelopennese - text updated

Back in Lefkas, catching up with people we have met over the winter – lovely. Also decided with the uncertainty of Bregxit we would keep the car for a few more weeks and do some travelling around. Spent a few days driving around the Peloponnese which was just brilliant. Booked accommodation in Sparti and then travelled around visiting various places such as Monemvasia (Monemvasia is set on a stark, steep and rocky islet just off Laconia’s eastern shore. It was first settled in the Early Middle Ages, but its main flourish, dominating the...

Mar 4, 2019 - A little bit about no. 2......

March 2019 Been on No. 2 for over a week now – getting used to her and working out what we need to do to her and buy for our future adventures on her. We’ve been pretty lucky so far in that the previous owner had invested so much into her getting her ready for his big adventure and she’s already circumnavigated the world so she is up to it (hence one of the major reasons for us buying her). Although having said that there is a fair bit of maintenance and upkeep and repair that needs to be completed (after all she is over 20 years...

Mar 4, 2019 - spring is coming

February 2019 Back in Lefkas. Finished Greek lessons. The weather has been variable – lots of wind and some rain. There’s even been fresh dustings of snow on the mountains. Drove around the island one weekend and it’s just glorious, even when overcast. Have been enjoying wandering around Lefkas. Gen took the bus to Corfu to look in on No. 2 (as we are calling her) and completed various chores and maintenance, go through lockers etc – there’s all sorts of stuff stuffed everywhere – it will take a bit of time sorting through everything and...

Feb 6, 2019 - Wonderful Greece.....

Had pretty good weather when we returned from Corfu. On the weekend we drove around the island, Levkas – stunning, even when overcast. The west coast is lovely, the waters emerald green and lined with beautiful mountains covered with pine forests. Went back to Corfu for a few days to stay on our new boat – yes we have another boat – this one for blue water cruising. More on that later, especially as the Brexit outcome / result dictates a lot of what comes next. Having the car is great, we spent last weekend travelling around on the...

Jan 25, 2019 - Winter in Lefkada

Following beautiful weather we had some significant snow fall on the mountains on the mainland and even on the higher ground of the island. Very pretty sight. January 2019 Kali Khronia This is the first year in many that Gen and I managed to see the new year in. Didn’t attend the new years eve party in Porto but went on deck and lit some sprarklers and saw the odd firework go off – no major display. Hired a car for a few weeks and have been out looking at boats. Had a lovely drive to Igoumenitsa a long the coastal route and then inland for...

Dec 24, 2018 - Winter in the Ionian

November 2018 The weather has been amazing – and it’s November. Lovely warm days with temperatures around 20C – its such a shame to be in the marina. Although there have been the odd severe thunderstorms whipping up the wind. Luckily we don’t have boats on one side of us so have commandeered a second lazy line (which helps reduce the amount of leaning we do onto our neighbour Neil). The liveaboard community here is quite active – Knit and Natter on Tuesdays, Wacky Walkers on Sundays, there’s line dancing classes as well as Latin dancing...

Nov 2, 2018 - Not quite the last entry - photo's added

Sunday 21 – Wednesday 24 October Headed back to Lefkada and anchored in Vliho and Tranquil bay. Just enjoying our time with the lovely weather. Wednesday 24 October Anchored near Kastos on Kastos Island. Nice anchorage. You can see it’s the end of the season. The town looked very closed down. Very few boats in the harbour. Thursday 25 October The wind had changed direction and had picked up in the morning. Our anchor drag alarm went off so we just got up and moved on. We got a sprightly sail in and anchored for a short while near Ak Skrota,...

Sep 6, 2018 - ANC: D/D: small little bay Kastos island to HBR/ANC Nydri, Lefkada

Good Morning. Still with wind concerns, Otoku could not be reached. :-(. Nor could Ithaca island. :-(. (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) Opposite the entrance into Nydri.... is the famed Onaissis island of Scorpios. (pic) . Such a beautiful island, with such a colorful history. In their place, the wind helped us get to Nydri, on the island of Kefkada. [Nydri is a very ‘hopping place’ alive with music, neon lighted dance boats, and tours that leave the harbor around 11:00p.m. and return still blaring music and flashing neon lights,...

Sep 5, 2018 - HBR: D/D: Agia Effemia to. ANC small little bay Kastos island

We hurried our breakfast, so we would be ready to be picked up a little before 9:00a.m., for our taxi ride to Messillini Cave. Within 1/2 hour we have arrived cave, and were the very first ones in line. This was the perfect time to arrive. Over the years the lines have been lengthy, and the wait to see this phenomenon has taken as long as 1-1/2 hours to reach the boats.(pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) Today Lady Luck was with us, we came, we went, and we conquered, then returned to the...

Sep 6, 2017 - Vathy, Meganisi (day #2)

Good Morning, from my sandwhiched position between last night's neighbors: ALLURE and MY ELIZA. Just as I was finished my breakfast..... MY ELIZA left first, followed on her heels, ALLURE. Now there is an empty slip on each side of Milena. Upon our nighttime neighbors departures, it now revealed our closest boats..... M/Y ITAKA on our port side, and ALCOR SECONDO. on our starboard. (These were not to be our overnight neighbors, but are just for our daytime enjoyment until we get sandwiched on either side again. Note: The 76 foot, wood...

Sep 5, 2017 - Vathi, Meganisi

Boy, what a night we each had last night with the horrid, little square, lighted music party boat. Sleeping by fits and snatches. Meeting over the salon table in the morning, just prior to breakfast, all of us were dragging our bodies around with a lot of effort. It was a joint decision... that no matter where we stayed tonight, it was NOT going to be here or in the equally LOUD port of Nidri. Anywhere else on the planet would do. . This is our beach returned to normal after nightclub-swimming-dancing-music marathon last night. Jacques has...

Sep 4, 2017 - At Anchor at Ak. Kefali beach (second Kefali of this trip), mainland, Greece

After breakfast, while I was blogging, Jacques and Marina went ashore for supplies. They sneaked off the boat so quietly, I did not hear them leave. If I did -- I would have gone with them...... Anyhow -- they cam back from town a little before noon, "with their tails between their legs, and panting from the heat". After stowing the groceries, Milena lifted her skirts, and high tailed it out of the harbor. With the temperatures heating up, Millie was preparing to exit on the same route, thru the canal, that we entered yesterday -- only...
