Mar 27, 2012 - Day trip to Phaistos

3-27 Wiki Info Phaistos A regiment of 20 UK soldiers stayed in the hostel last night...nice fellows. They're stationed on Cyprus and for an exercise they were retracing the route of their same regiment during WW2 in 1941. In studying it they hope to discover the positives/negatives of the decisions made in retrospect. We stored our packs at the hostel and took a bus to Phaistos archeological site and from there I hiked 6 km to/from Ayia Triada. Great hike (see photos), and downhill both ways! Of course, that was only half the distance...

Oct 19, 2006 - Marmaris to Crete - We're in training ! (posted by Sam)

This ten day excursion to Crete was a travel-training mission for AB, Ella and me. A good test for us all as it involved a few ferry journeys. Aside from that, Greece's largest island was a place I'd always wanted to explore. We hired a car and in ten days drove from east to west and north to south searching for unspoiled out of the way places. The history of Crete is amazing and it was a huge learning experience in history for the children too....from the Minoans to the Second World War

Jul 29, 2005 - Palaikastro, Greece

BE MAD (ben evan miriam aaron dan) were in this city with a hard to say name. It is a town of only 1084 people. Plus us. thats 1090. We expected that there would be a party thrown for such a great event, but alas, there was no party. BE MAD rented bicycles thinking that it would be fun to ride through the hills of Crete (the island where this mysterious city lies) in the dangerously strong winds. To their surprise, it was actually really really hard, but they made it all the way to their destination of Vai beach, also known as the palm tree...

Dec 13, 2004 - Agios Nikolaos, Crete

At the bus station I looked at a map and asked where the port was. My package didn't include a room in this town. I was only here to catch the ferry the next day, so I had opted to find a room myself when I got here. With directions I got to the port-luckily this was a small town-and confirmed as best I could that the ferry to Rhodes would leave from here tomorrow. I then looked around a found a hotel open not far away. For 20 euros I got a nice view of the sea, a large bed, TV, icebox and bath in the room. That night I found a restaurant...
