Jun 6, 2017 - Fia to Oia and back again

This morning we got a reasonably early start as we had decided to walk from Fia to Oia which is along the island Caldera or crater rim. Tjis is about 10km long and has wonderful views the whole way. Hey Tones and I can do this in a breeze, considering the walking we did in Italy. We got underway about 9.15..it would have been nice to be earlier but the first shuttle to Fia only leaves our hotel at 8.30am and today they were late hence the later start. It was already quite warm but there was a welcome breeze as we walked. The views were...

Jun 5, 2017 - Fia, Santorini

After a slower start this morning we took the hotel shuttle back into Fia. I was looking forward to the cooking class that Toni had booked us into this afternoon. After finding a cafe and having a delicious breakfast of crepes and coffee we were fueled up, and ready to hit the streets. This morning we were going to find the cable car and ride it down to the old port. Once located the ride only took a few minutes. It did give us again some picturesque views as we traveled down. We spent about an hour wandering around the few shops at the...

Jun 4, 2017 - Fia, Santorini

This morning we packed up and were ready to catch the public bus to our last place we are staying which is not far from Fia. Both of us did not get a great sleep as there was a big electrical storm and it was very humid. Then this morning being a Sunday the church bells were ringing very early. The drive on the bus was lovely, a very nice bus and the views were spectacular We arrived at Fia and Toni had arranged a pick-up from the bus-stop to take us the 2 kms to our hotel, Porto Castelo. I swear the driver of the mini van thinks he's in...

Jun 3, 2017 - Perissa, Santorini

This morning, as planned we were up ready to climb up the mountain once again, this time in search of the path that would lead to the chapel built into the side of the cliff. It was a cloudier morning making the air quite humid. We located the fork in the track very easily today, not sure how we missed it yesterday. After taking some photos we decided to once again climb over the top and head down into Kalima, maybe even have a nice fresh seafood lunch there. After being harassed by many enthusiastic managers to try their rather expensive...

Jun 2, 2017 - Perissa, Santorini

We were up reasonably early ready for our walk up the mountain before it got too hot. We were also lucky that most of the climb was in the shade as the sun was rising on the other side. Somehow we missed the fork that should have taken us to the little church built into the cliff face, much to my annoyance. I realise now that I started looking for it too late but in our defence it was not signposted and not an obvious track. We have decided that we will make this visit tomorrow so we hastened on to the top as now we were in full sun We...

Jun 1, 2017 - Perissa, Santorini

After a nice sleep in we decided to save some dollars and get some food from the supermarket for breakfasts etc. The local store offered a service to pick you up and take you you free of charge. A great idea. We informed our hosts of our toilet problem and then took off shopping. Within the hour we had completed our shopping and stashed our goodies before heading down to the beach to look around and just chill out. Toni and I are both looking forward to staying in one place for a few nights. We wandered around the seaside shops for a while...

May 31, 2017 - Naxos to Santorini

We did go to the movie last night and we both really enjoyed it. I am kicking myself for not wearing my trainers though as it was a good 3 km there and back so my feet are telling me today that I was a silly woman. Neverless it was great. Also wished that I had taken my phone to get some photos of the sunset as it was pvery pretty. This morning we packed up and after having another delicious breakfast with Mary, John slipped us into toen to get our tickets and wait for the ferry. I would thoroughly recommend John and Mary's beautiful...

May 30, 2017 - Naxos

After a lovely sleep in, we tucked into a sumptuous breakfast that Mary had prepared for us. Everything from warm bread and local jams, omelettes, bruschettos, homemade pastries, to delicious greek yogurt and fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee...we were waddling up to our room at the end I tell you! We just about needed another sleep to rest after it!! After a bit of a rest to let our stomachs settle, we thought we should try to work it off so I took Toni through some Pilates exercises on our balcony. It was a little warm in the sun but...

May 29, 2017 - Naxos

After an early 5am start we were on board the fast seajet ferry Champion 1 sailing to Naxos. I was looking forward to relaxing in sun and warm weather. 3 hours later we arrived to find it not as warm as I had hoped but the scenery made up for the cooler temperature. Waiting for us on the dock was our host John, who drove us out to his studio rooms. Mary and he have delightful rooms about 10 minutes from the town. After changing and settling into our rooms, he kindly drove us back into town where we had a delicious lunch of a true Naxos...

May 19, 2017 - News from Santorini

Tis 1 am and we just finished dinner in Athens. Turns out getting off of Santorini (and Mykonos, we hear) falls somewhere between tricky and impossible, with strikes. All the ferries were cancelled today. The airport could use about 20 more flights we hear. From everyone. So no early evening to spend in Athens. But, the weather was perfect while we were in Santorini, so all is good. Tomorrow, which is here already, we want to see the Acropolis, the Plaka area, hope to meet up with Meg and Chaz. They may be at our hotel. I loved this trip....

A Group in Greece

Nov 9, 2016 - Crete

My cold has blossomed over the last two days. No fun. However, we are in Crete, with strong winds blowing over from Africa raising the temperature to 29 degrees. Goes great with a slight fever! We are staying in the Lato Boutique Hotel In Heraklion near the airport where we landed, and after some miss-steps managed to collect our pre-booked rental car, thanks to Sharon. Our first day was spent touring most parts of the east end of the Island from north to south. The second day we travelled south, then west, then north, then back to...

Nov 7, 2016 - Touring and leaving Mykonos

Yesterday we took a local bus to the central town of Ano Meros. It was Sunday and off season so most places are closed on the island. The dry, rocky, mountainous landscape was interesting for us to compare with lush B.C. We wandered around the town for an hour and a half, checking out the Greek Orthodox Monastery, the town square where the entire population appeared to spill into after church, some side streets of open fields and sporadically placed white Adobe Greek houses, the Air Force station, and some minor shops. We couldn't find...
