Mar 10, 2013 - Naxos

Naxos is a bigger island than Paros and much larger than Antiparos. I found a lovely little room in a four-plex which even has a communal fridge and a tiny balcony overlooking a rather overgrown garden. Every morning I would wander into the village to buy fresh bread and watermelon for my breakfast -- heaven! I've explored the island on foot, following the rutted roads and pathways that criss-cross the island. Olive groves with lounging goats and sheep are everywhere and the air has a rich, dusty smell to it. I am so totally relaxed after...

Oct 8, 2009 - More lazy days on the Aegean

Not much to say, Naxos is another pleasent island however once again we really did not explore this island. We were only here three days and between rest, relaxing, beach action, pools, a castle, a museum, two acheological museums and a historic monument well there was just no time to see the rest of the island. Naxos seems to be a more tourist oriented island than Samos but that is just a fact and not ment to imply anthing positive or negative.

Oct 4, 2007 - Naxos

We made it to Naxos yesterday with the big ferries running on a very windy day. It was only a 2-hour trip from Santorini and didn't feel too rough considering the winds. Upon arrival at port the touts were all over Al and I again. We had a preference of going to a place called Irene 2 but the area for information was empty. One of the touts was female and Al thought we should give her a chance to show us her place so we ended up going to a place called Pension Stella with Georgia. It was cute! It had a kitchenette, small balcony; it was...

Literalmente no pasa nada....

Jun 11, 2007 - Nutty Naxos

Long golden beaches and beautiful clear water Under German occupation Hotel like a concentration camp We arrived in Naxos after a truly fantastic three days in Paros - which might in some way have influenced our conclusion that Naxos is below par (I originally wrote crap, but Liz felt it too harsh). Naxos is much larger than either Paros or Mykonos, and is in fact the largest island in the Cyclades. The town centre is heavily commercialized and geared to extract as much money from the unfortunate tourist as possible - this could have...

May 6, 2007 - Naxos

Wednesday 2 May Early start to catch the 7.00am ferry to Naxos, a 5 hour trip from Athens. Picked up by Stavros and taken back to Pension Irene II, great place with a swimming pool as well. We were checked in by Irene who is this real character, about 60 years old and speaks very little English. After hearing that the buses on the island are very irregular we decided we needed to hire a quad bike for the 4 days. The afternoon was then spent touring the islands beaches before heading back to the pension pool for a couple of hours. We...

Apr 10, 2007 - Breakfast at Mamma's House - Ios - Naxos

We slept late. But around 10 o'clock I had this gnawing feeling that I needed to find the car. With all the walking around last night trying to find our guest house, I couldn't remember where I had parked it. But how big could Fira be, right? I know it was somewhere upslope from Villa Elkaza, but not over the top on the caldera side. I needed to return the car by 1:00 or..... I didn't like thinking of the possibility that I would not find the car. That just wasn't going to happen. I told Linda that it might take me a while, but I needed to...

John & Linda's Trip

Oct 29, 2006 - Naxos, Greece

Well after our short visit to Northern Italy, we decided to head to Greece to enjoy the weather before the rainy season. After a quick trip back to overnight in Milan, we caught a flight to Athens. From there via a 5 hr ferry to Naxos. Got in quite late, but our hotel manager was there to meet us and show us to our room. Did not see much of Greece in the dark, but very pleased at what we were see when the sun came up. We stayed at a beach area (Agios Prokopis) about 4km out of the main town. This beach area is obviously very busy during the...

Oct 7, 2006 - Naxos

Arrived into Naxos without a place to say but my guidebook had a place recommended so I decided to try to find the guy holding up the sign for that place. With luck on my side, I found him and he looked like a decent guy. Threw my bags into his car and we drove out to Pension Irene II. The place was owned and run by his mother in law. Gorgeous place. I had my own room again with a kitchen this time. After settling in I took a walk around the town and tried to navigate the streets. Watched some people fishing off the pier. Sat on a gorgeous...

Aug 29, 2006 - Naxos

In the morning it was straight of down to Pireas on the Metro to catch our ferry to Naxos after the exceedingly average free breakfast at the hotel. I don't know why but I expected the ferries to the islands to be these small little boat with eccentric captains whizzing around the Aegean Sea. However, most of them are gigantic 1000 seat catamarans or single hulls. The journey to Naxos was only 3 hours so we arrived at about 12:00pm. As we disembarked, we were inundated with touts flogging their hotels or guest houses. We had already booked...

Jul 28, 2005 - Peros, Greece

Well, today has been interesting....at least it started off that way. We were supposed to be pulling into Mykonos today, which I was really looking forward to. But in the very early morning hours this ship started to really rock and roll. I didn't get out of bed (like many passengers did and ended up getting sick, it's better to stay in bed). Turns out the staff had already begun setting up for breakfast when the storm hit and I hear there were broken dishes everywhere. We got 60 mph winds...keep in mind that 63 mph winds are considered a...

Oct 13, 2004 - Almost Finished Greece

Well, I won't be too long on this entry, cause Kerry is getting tired of sitting and watching me type for about half and hour every time. Last time I made and entry we were in NAXOS, where it was miserable weather. The wind was so bad that you couldn't really do very much except walk around and even that was a challenge. We did manage to see some of the other parts of the Island, like Apollo, in the North. That was very picturesque and also cold and windy................ Than we sailed off to PAROS, where the weather turned back to sunny...
