May 14, 2013 - The Greek Island - Ios

14 May Blue Ferry to the Greek Island of Ios Up early and a short walk (150m) back to the train station, this time heading for Pireaus.- the port. Only a short trip. Thank you to our Greek Angel (another story). Easy walk from Piraeus train station to the Blue Ferry which we’d booked on the internet. No hassles. We had comfortable, large aircraft type seats to catch up on some sleep plus a great cafeteria and an outdoor coffee area for our 7 hour journey to Ios, via Pyros and Naxos. Our accommodation for 5 nights – the Dionysis Hotel...

Sep 27, 2012 - Ios

In the afternoon we head off to the port for our 15:00pm ferry to Ios, this is a super ferry carrying only passengers (450 if fully loaded but we are only a little over half) a hydrofoil type ship so it is very fast we have a 2 hour trip with a stop along the way. We get to Ios and our hotel, get checked in, a bit of time to relax and get ready for our trip to the local restaurant for a very nice dinner (a very large pork chop and fries), our hotel is near the sea port but the restaurant is in the main part of town which is up on top of the...

Jul 22, 2011 - Greek Islands

e arrived in Athens around lunch time and attempted to get out to the port to get the 3pm ferry to Santorini. Unfortunately we had another train misadventure and missed the ferry by 15 minutes. Luckily (kind of) there was another ferry leaving at 8pm. So we sat around Starbucks for 5 hours until we could board. As is normal in Greece, the ferry departed an hour late and because of our budget we did not have seats so we made ourselves a little hidey hole with our backpacks and slept on the floor in the 'bar lounge' until we arrived in...

Jun 18, 2011 - Ios

Ios was a ghost town during the day because most of the buildings were bars. At night it was the opposite. We went out with the group on the first night and visited many establishments. Each bar had a theme. ‘Slammers’ theme was that every time you ordered a shot, they put a motorbike helmet on your head and then hit you with a fire extinguisher. ‘Flames’ tended to do things associated with fire. Another bar had different flavoured shots. Eg apple pie, twix, malteaser. The second day was a beach day. Ios had the best beach of all the...

Jun 20, 2009 - Ios

Kalamera Here we are in glorious Ios. All slept very well in our snug room for 5... came down to have breakfast poolside at our place but they were not showing the all blacks France game, so we walked down to the main beach area. Found the FAR OUT club, and it is just that, all 18 plus year olds partying, quite fun. So we sat at the bar at 11 am watching us beat the frogs, thank god! Had great bacon and eggs for brunch, nearly felt like home, but not cos we saw the bleak cold wet conditions at the cake tin...you poor buggars back...

Jun 19, 2009 - Mykonos to Ios

Have written this page will add in when we get a chance Day 81 Mykonos to Ios we were up very early this morning... to get organised to go on the ferry to Ios. Hard case, you go to the port, every man and his dog there, not sure if all trying to get on the same boat...eventually our fast cat came into port, quite delayed. The wind and rough seas were horrendous! They took off from port and we rock and rolled really bad, they had to slow it down. Arrived safely into the island of Ios. Were met and taken to our hotel on the cliffs above the...

Jun 12, 2009 - I'm on a boat!

Hello ALL!!! From the catchy title, one might guess that Lauren and I are cruising our way back to Athens for a good 10 hours before we jet off to PARIS!!! (please say with a thick French accent). To sum up Ios, the following words come to mind: gluttony, over-exposure, greasy food, free pour, hot hot heat and mosquitos. The majority of our days were spent in the sun, on the sand, in the resturant (no, it is not connected to the bar!) scratching and counting our mosquito bites. Lauren is up to about 40 just on her legs and I am trailing...

Jun 10, 2009 - Enjoying the Heat

So we made it to Ios safe and sound and guess what, it is even hotter than Santorini. I am pretty sure we are sitting around the 34/35 mark. Our only saving grace is that our hotel is across the street from the Ocean so we are getting some of the wind coming off and so things are completely unbearable. We arrived yesterday Fresh Off the Boat and thankfully found our respected hotel bus quite quickly. The hotel we are staying at is the Far Out Club and we are staying at the village. When Lauren and I checked in yesterday we were under the...

Jul 3, 2008 - On my way to Ios Greece

-3-8 We left 0n Thursday July the 3rd. 2008 at 3am from my house in oceanside. Drove an hour and a half to LAX to catch my 7am flight to Newark New Jersey. Dropped the rental car off at the wonderful “Pay Less” car rental, took their shuttle to the airport where Rich and Ryan were dropped off at the United counter. Their security line was, no joke, a half mile long. fortunately my line was not that long. after checking in and doing the routine of stripping down for the metal detectors, (i know the routine by now but i was so mad, i took...

May 23, 2008 - Ios, Greece

Arrived in Ios quite late after taking the ferry from Athens. When we arrived the bar man had lined up shots for everyone to welcome us to the island. The hotel was really good, nice room, tv, air conditioning and and awesome pool and bar. On the first day most of us hired scooters as its the easiest wasy to explore the island. It was nuts driving around and I was videoing. We drove about 12 km out to Homers tomb which was a long hot drive as the wind is also hot. That afternoon relaxed at the beach and the poolside at the hotel. The second...

Aug 8, 2007 - Ios

Jul 23, 2006 - Yiassou from Santorini!!

We've been very busy since our last entry in Cesky Krumlov, at one point covering four countries in five days! We spent two nights in Cesky Krumlov and it was a beautiful little place. Things were cheaper there than in Prague and we ate at least three hearty meals a day! We travelled from Cesky to Vienna where we stayed for one night. We got in late on a Sunday night and left first thing Monday morning so the only thing we got to see in Vienna was the local McDonalds! On Monday afternoon we arrived in Munich where we finished Busabout....
