Sep 7, 2018 - ANC/HBR: D/D: ANC/HBR: Nydri, Lefkada to Lakka, Paxos

Goo morning. Milena got a very early start today for a couple of reasons. — Ftrst: the traffic and potential lines (wait time) at the canal could be substantial. — Two: Probably more important. There is a storm coming through later today that is suppose to center itself on this part of the Ionian islands. Very good reason to make ourselves scarse. The quickest way to get to Paxos is using the internal cruising along the East side of Lefkada in a northerly direction. At the Northern tip of the island is a channel (or canal) that leads to...

Sep 2, 2018 - ANC: D/D: bay by little chapel Vlacherna and ANC. Gaios, Paxos

Good morning breakfast.... Yes, this is us enjoying the beginning of another beautiful day. (pic) After breakfast, Milena pulled up anchor, and left for her daily travel to the island of Paxos. (pic) . The waters were smooth, the sun warm, and reading a great pass time. (pic) (pic) Our 5 hour run seemed to be over much faster.... as I looked off the starboard side of the boat, and watched us slowly enter the area of Gaios, Paxos. Milena is too big to tie up to the lengthy, and somewhat shallow pier, so anchoring is the only option....

Aug 27, 2018 - ANC Gaios, Paxos (day #2)

Good Morning to day #2 in Gaios. The weather has been playing havoc with us all day. The dark clouds over head, the possibility of rain, and yet nothing until just after lunch..... the skies opened up, and we got deluged. Boats were scurrying from everywhere, and trying to huddle up and wait out this storm. (pic) (pic). In this pile of boats seeking shelter, was Sherwood’s beauty. Mr. Sherwood, now older and retired, used to owner the Oriental Express trains, and a string of upper crust hotels. He sold off everything, and now his son has...

Aug 26, 2018 - ANC Lakka, Paxos to ANC Gaios, Paxos

We left Lakka much too early, and yet before the heat descends, and more tourists jam themselves into this tiny little harbor, we have places to go and things to do. Gaios, the main city on Paxos is down on the SE side of the island, and one of my favorite places in the Ionian. (pic) . A leisurely lovely cruise, a little over an hour, and we had arrived at Gaios. There seemed to be a party going on, lot of people, lot of noise, and boat whistles tooting — could it be a wedding. I did not see a bride. Once dropping our anchor, Jacques...

Aug 25, 2018 - ANC. Syvota/Maurtos to ANC. Lakka, Paxos

Today, I had my breakfast in peace, without George, or any of his friends. Such a pleasure that was. Late morning we left for our short 2-1/2 to 3 hour cruise to the island of Paxos, a little bay at the North end called Lakka. (pic) We left Maurtos in the latter part of the morning, andhad a breezy and beautiful crossing to Paxos. (pic) (pic) This is our arrival at Lakka,Paxos (very North part of the island) (pic) (pic) (pic) Just a lovely place, and obviously very popular . Four very large cruise boats have just left,probably...

May 29, 2018 - Greece, where it all began

We got up super early the next day to catch the ferry over to Corfu and then on to Paxos. Unfortunately, Tuesdays were the only days that a boat did NOT go directly to Paxos. Grimaldi certainly didn't time their ferry from Italy right in that regard. Still, we were perfectly happy with the way that trip worked out (see the Brindisi entry). We really didn't need to get up so early to make the ferry to Corfu that we had found online. They seem to go quite often (like at least once a half an hour). We had time to have a quick coffee and...

Sep 19, 2017 - At anchor at Lakka, Paxos, Kerkyra, Greece

Morning started with fresh squeezed organs juice, an omelette, and Jacques trying to re-install a new piece for the hot water tank. . He became frustrated quickly because the old, worn out piece could not be dislodged, so the new one could be installed. Thank goodness Milena has the old hot water heater still possible to use. Otherwise all of us would have cold showers for the next week or so. Just after breakfast, we started our journey Northward to end at the Northeast most tip of Paxos, at the harbor of Lakka (pronounced "lack--eeee"). ...

Sep 18, 2017 - At anchor at in front of Gaio, Paxos (Day #2)

We all had a rough night battling mosquitoes. Yesterday it was bees, and today mosquitoes. Gee when I was here with the Campbells, we had neither one of these pests to deal with. Yesterday, during lunch, a bee landed on my left pant leg -- AND STUNG ME RIGHT THRU MY CLOTHES! Now my upper inside leg is all red, and swollen, and gone from stinging yesterday, to itching like crazy today. I have had two bee stings that I can remember in the last 30 + years. One was last year at Gemillier, where I had a huge red bump on my leg for over a week,...

Sep 17, 2017 - At anchor in front of Gaio, Paxos. (Day #1)

Today, we only had a three hour cruise from Parga (mainland) to Paxos island, just south of the sprawling lay big island of Corfu, the ending of the line for this year's charter. . ++++++++++++++++ Note: Milena has to be in Corfu to do exit papers for Mehmet to return to Turkey. This is a long, very tedious proceedure for Jacques, and he is meeting the the Greek authorities the morning of Sept. 22 (5 days before travel, as per European law). Mehmet is leaving in the 27th of October, hopefully the Greek government won't make Jacques...

Aug 12, 2017 - At anchor in Little bay on the island of Anti-Paxos

(Note: yesterday's blog had a "_____ s". That space was an emoji of a bee that did not translate itself to the blog. Blank spaces either with or without an "s".... place "bee" there and it was make sense.). Our morning started late today. After doing the norm of first swim, and laundry catch up.... it was time to go to the beach for some really special beach time. Trying to nurse my cold, I stayed on board, and excitedly photographed their return.. I was just taking a picture of our neighboring board the "MARHABA", when I noticed an...

Aug 11, 2017 - At anchor Paxos (day #2)

Good morning, and welcome to yet another day with the 𯐝 s. I must admit the 𯐝 s have met their match in trying to get the better of David and Griffin. I thought David's hat, and milk method was pretty cool, until Griffin devised a method which I believe is so easy, effortless and fun. What I want to call this method is: Griffin gives back to them what they gave to him -- and it works. By the time breaKfast was over his method had caught over 10 𯐝 s. It can even be fun to watch, as David plays "Killing Me Softly", the 𯐝 song of...

Aug 10, 2017 - At anchor Paxos

Bee morning from Syvota/mourtos area. David, our now christened "bee catcher extraordinaire" had devised a truly unique method of trapping 𯐝 s. A small amount of milk in a juice glass, and using his hat, and coaxing words of encouragement, he would usher the 𯐝 into the glass, get covered with the smallest of "bee flaps" which I brought from the States. The bee 𯐝 would then drown while swimming in the milk, and immediately be tossed overboard. This continued for quite a while, until all the juice glasses were inhabited with 𯐝 s. Quite an...
