Aug 12, 2009 - Corfu

Went of George's boat today, which is a full day cruising the islands. I watched everyone swim and complete their water activities... It was very hot... George is a mad greek man who is obsessed with sex. He has these tshirts depicting many sexual activities.. Show you when I get home. There was a skinny dipping session, didn't participate however the boys gladly stripped and jumped in so did a few girls... Just packin up now as we have an early start in the morning. Went to a traditional greek show tonight, the dancing was good to see and...

Aug 11, 2009 - Corfu

Woke up at 5am by the boat people indicating we had arrived in Greece – Corfu. Unloaded the bus for another 1 hour ride to our hotel. Unlucky for us we arrived around 6.30am and our rooms weren't ready until 2pm. We all had a few zzzzs, then had a late breaky and headed into town to pick last minute supplies for Egypt. Spent the rest of the arvo relaxing in our room which overlooks the water in Corfu. First party night for me, I attended the toga party, its a bit traditional because we did one, on the new zealand contiki. I met two of my...

Aug 10, 2009 - Pompeii - Corfu

We had another early departure as we left Rome heading for guided tour of Pompeii before continuing our journey to Corfu. When we arrived in Pompeii, it was extremely hot and humid, let's just the tour didn't have any shade. So we moved through the city for about an 1 hour and ½ with a tour guide who spoke so quickly you were lucky to catch something about the city. Apparently, the volcano has errupted many times and has gradually over time pushed the coast line of Greece further away from the city. I was expecting to see mummified bodies,...

Aug 5, 2009 - Pink Pile of Poo

Clearly the title of this piece needs a little bit of explanation: my hostel on Corfu is called the Pink Palace, but I, and some other Aussie girls, renamed it The Pink Pile of Poo, in honour of the appalling service, vibe, attitude, accommodation, and general world outlook of this place. I cannot say it enough NEVER EVER GO THERE! I will also be sending a review to all the travel websites I know flaming this place, so hopefully people will stop going there. How did I come to find myself in a pile of pink poo you ask? On the unwitting...

Kirsti's Odyssey

May 27, 2009 - Day 10 (Nicole and Arf) me too!!

Hey Everyone! It’s Nicole. So today we were in Corfu, Greece, a very beautiful green island. We got of the ship and walked into town and rented a car, a very fun little jeep looking car. We decided to go to a beach on the other side of the island about 30 mins away. On the way we stopped at a little supermarket (emphasis on little) and picked up some bread and peanut butter for lunch. The beach we went to was amazing. The water was amazingly clear and it was an ok temperature (I wouldn’t call it warm) While we were there we meet a little...

Apr 14, 2009 - George's Boat

We woke up this morning and looked outside, hoping that the weather would hold out for our trip on George's Boat. We drove around to the center of town and stopped by the docks, where George and his boat were waiting for us. George was a character, an old Greek man who always had something interesting to say. We headed out onto the water, still hoping that the overcast skies would clear away. After a while, we arrived at another island, and had an opportunity to participate in some water sports. I ended up going tubing on the back of a...

Ultimate Europe 2009

Apr 13, 2009 - Corfu

Swaying back and forth with the boat, I managed to get myself dressed and make it up for breakfast. Half of the people on our tour did not...still pretty seasick from the rough night. When we reached the shore a couple hours later, we were all pretty psyched to be leaving our sea legs behind us. We were in Corfu, an island in Greece. We drove around a little while before arriving in the center of the town. We all stopped to eat at a nice gyros place that had really great food and was pretty cheap. I had about three of them and was pretty...

Feb 23, 2009 - Four Sunsets in Three Days

2/23/09 We finally get on the plane and fly north to Corfu, another Ionian Island to the west of the Greek mainland and furthest north. Attractive Corfu town is chock full of lovely Venetian townhouses in multiple pastel colors, resting between two medieval fortresses. The bustling city is quite lived in and despite the lack of tourists, life continues on quite as usual. We stayed with a family on the west coast right outside the tiny town of Pelekas, another medieval gem with a lookout point, called Kaiser’s Throne, where visitors can see...

Oct 18, 2008 - Recovering in Corfu

Randy We have been holed-up on Corfu Island, our first stop in Greece, for over a week now. You may remember a list of things that went wrong for us in Brindisi, Italy while we waited for the day the boat would sail to Greece. You may also remember that we had received a number of cautions about the erratic ferry schedules now that the summer season has ended. The repeated advice we got was to buy our boat tickets at the point of departure. This we did, from a travel agent in Brindisi. But, when we got to the ferry loading gate on the day...
