OPA! Well we left Bulgaria this am and headed to Kalambaka Greece. Yay! Glad to get out of there after that recent bombing of a tourist bus!! Yesterday was a rest day for people to do what they wanted after a group walking tour of some old churches that were beautiful. Got sucked at the flea market..yeah had to do it just one time! went swimming in the pool, ate a Zorba burger at McDonalds..beef patty with feta cheese and cucumbers..was good. had a few drinks at the bar and off to bed. Jan 26, 2011 - Vergina - Jan 26

January 26, 2011 Today we visited Vergina and the Royal Tombs. The tombs were about an hour or so drive from where we staying (probably actually closer to the city of Thessaloniki than we were now!) so after breakfast we set off. We had a bit of trouble finding the site itself as our TomTom seems intent on taking us to strange places. We eventually found some signs in the town of Vergina and found the main entrance, complete with tour bus outside! Inside, the tumulus (mound covering the tombs) was pretty obvious and we headed towards it....

Apr 13, 2010 - A day trip to Veria

Even though this morning was gray and drizzly we decided to stick with our plans to go to Veria. Once again we were at the amazing Thessaloniki bus depot and were off to Veria, a short 45 minute ride. Our first surprise of the day was the size of Veria. We expected a very small town but instead were in a town of about 40,000! After we disembarked the bus, we looked at each other and said "now what?" On the way in we did see a church that looked interesting so we headed in that direction. On the way, we passed a little church but all we saw...
