Jul 7, 2006 - Andros

This will be a very short post. I went to the island of Andros with a woman I met through a cousin of mine. As this is a public site, I'll just leave my comments to- this woman was a tad bit crazy. Very kind to me, but crazy nonetheless. To say she had a few screws loose would be a kind descriptive statement about her. We made a plan to visit the island because of a special exhibit/opening at the famous contemporary art museum there. That plan fell through and so we decided to then see as much of the island as we possible could. After...

Bon Voyage 2005-2006

Jun 6, 2006 - Athens

HELLO FROM ATHENS!!! Wow- what a beautiful city. Welcome to the 1st world. That was all i could really say to myself upon stepping off the plane in Athens. Athens ain't what it use to be. The pictures i Had in my mind of Athens were from my mother's trip here some 20 odd years ago - it might as well be a different country all together compared to what it looked like her her photos. The Olympics and membership to the EU have changed the face of Greece like you wouldn't believe. The body and spirit haven't seemed to have changed much from...

Bon Voyage 2005-2006

May 16, 2006 - Greece: Patras, Pyrgos, Sparta ... and eventually, Athens

I know I haven't updated the other entries, but we are at an internet cafe in Sparta (Can you believe it??) and Greece is happening right now. We landed in Partas after an uneventful 21 hour ferry ride from Ancona in Italy. I was going to sleep on deck, but there were a lot of people laying about who looked very much like they were snorers and the uncovered section was soaking wet. So, instead of getting wet, or choking someone I hardly knew, the five of us bunked together in a four bed berth, Dad on the floor on a Thermarest mat. We all...

May 19, 2004 - Olympia/Delphi

I have always loved the Olympics so I was really excited about our trip to Olympia and the site of the original games this morning. Unlike a lot of the ruins that we've seen, however, these were relatively well-preserved due to volcanic activity that buried the site. Saw where the statue of Zeus was kept (one of the seven wonders of the ancient world) as well as where the original Olympic flame was housed. Really enjoyed this. Went next to the attached museum and saw another statue of Nike (the first was the Winged Victory - Nike - of...
