Apr 27, 2013 - Colditz Castle
Poor old Peter, the temperature dropped forty degrees overnight and it started raining. It rained all morning and we spent the morning in Elsie waiting for a break. Peter had a sleepless night and ended up staying another day alongside us. The rain did ease off lunch time and we decided to walk through the woods into Colditz, about one and a half miles. We came out near Colditz castle the famous wartime prisoner of war camp. I wanted to visit the castle as back in 1999 my brother-in-law, Jack, had made two 1/3rd scale replicas of the glider...

Apr 26, 2013 - Off To Colditz
Time to move on so today we upped sticks and headed back to Colditz in Germany. After filling the water tank, emptying the waste water tank and filling Elsie up with diesel we headed North. A minor navigation problem sent us heading towards Krakow instead of Katovice and added about ten miles to our trip today which was our longest leg so far at 370 miles. It was motorway nearly all the way so easy cruising apart from the first and last twenty miles. It was good to see the temperature outside rising steadily up to eighty degrees, nice at...

Jun 9, 2009 - A day in China
Saturday 6th June. Up and away through the village and it was obvious what it was famous for with girly bars and discotheques in profusion but the name of one of the clubs ‘Sorrarz’ intrigued us. A line of high hills marked the border and after crossing them it was remarkable how different the two countries were. The roads, the housing and the sense of order changed so significantly that they might have been thousands of miles apart. Our route took us through pretty but tidy towns and villages until we reached the outskirts of Dresden a...

Jun 9, 2009 - Our great escape
Sunday 7th June. Lovely warm day, the first in a while. After a good breakfast we walked up the hill, through the main town square, up the steps to the church and then on up the slope to the castle entrance. There was a strange feeling of walking through the pages of history as we passed through the first set of towering walls into the first courtyard where the German guards were based. Passing through to the second courtyard the allied officers quarters rose up before us before the final gate to the prisoners courtyard which seemed so...

Jun 18, 2008 - Colditz (Germany) Great escapes and stuff ups!!
Happy Birthday to Dakota Jackson! OK, I know its been awhile but when your locked up in a German prison for 3 weeks you get no access to internet or phone, so its been tough!! Seriously, I have been in places that just don’t seem to have internet cafes. Most of the places in Germany and France I went to were little villages so they had no access from what I could see. I also travelled thru quite quick so maybe I just didn’t see any. Now in the UK and haven’t had much time to write, but today is different! I hope to update you as much as I...
