Bernkastel is a well-known wine growing center in the middle Moselle River Valley. It dates back to about 370 AD. And again, as in all of Europe, has layers and layers of history. It was not damaged in WWII. The castle ruins shown in the pictures was from a fire in 1692. The castle was never restored. We saw the medieval marketplace with its gabled timber-framed houses from the 17th century. We visited the Doctor Vineyards. Jun 3, 2014 - Lovely town and the home of Dr Loosen!

So I think the average age of visitors here is 65 so it's really busy from 10am -4pm.its super cute here. Exactly what you think of when picturing a German town. Today's focus is on wine. We had breakfast, got ready and started walking around looking for wines tastings. We made it down to the bridge over the Mosel and looked into this window that looked like large Christmas lights. May 24, 2013 - Mosel river Trier to Bernkastel-Kues

May 24 2013 We biked about 45 miles for a total 207 miles. We started the day with breakfast with our AirBNB host Jorg. We discussed some of his work and other topics. He is a Landscape Architect and enjoys his work. He is currently working in Luxembourg. He particularly likes to lead hikes in the Eifel area along the Mosel river. We then headed downstream.
