Apr 21, 2009 - Side Trip: Mainz
So my co-worker Allison and I decided around lunchtime today that we were through with all the crap we were going through at work and we wanted to get out and do something. I got the idea to go to Mainz (pronounced “mines”), a nearby historic town, just to see what we could find. ... Well the attached pictures tell a bit of the story, but what you will have to call me to find out about are: - the crazy, psycho random guy with a brick on a bike who started yammering to us about rich and poor people and how rich people like to show off their “richness” by raising their voices; - the crazy, at least 80-year-old man whom decided just to plant down right beside us at the table; and - the stories we ended up sharing with random peeps along the way.So my co-worker Allison and I decided around lunchtime today that we were through with all the crap we were going through at work and we wanted to get out and do something. When I was looking through guidebooks on Germany I read that Trier, billed as Germany’s oldest city, housed the greatest collection of Roman remains to be found anywhere north of the Alps. ... According to legend Trier was founded around 2000BC by Trebeta, son of Semiramis, the queen of Assyria. ... Around the 3rd century AD Trier developed into a center of Early Christianity, which explains the rich history of the ruins I saw on my trip here. ...
