Jul 11, 2011 - Warnemünde, Germany
The NCL Sun pulled into Warnemünde, Germany as Gaby joined Dad at the gym to continue his football conditioning. Mom and I slept in as usual; beauty like this doesn't just come naturally. We met up for a quick breakfast at the pool deck buffet. Finally at around 10:30, we got off the ship and started our mission to complete a self-guided tour of the port city. It took a good 20 minutes of walking up and down the dock for us to figure out we had to cross a tunnel to reach the boardwalk and the main part of the city. We strolled through the...

May 24, 2011 - Rostock, Germany
The weathermen promised us sunny and in the 60’s but it was cloudy and misty rain. Our tour was good. Antje, our guide, spoke English very well and we saw Rostock, which is now a very bustling, westernized city (as in TJMaxx, McDonalds and Burger King). But the Kloster zum Heiligen Kreuz (Convent of the Holy Ghost-now a museum), the old walls, the Marienkirche, the Universitatsplatz (University square) are very interesting. We then went to a microbrewery where we got beer and pretzels and a free beer glass. And we took a ferry back to the...

To the west end there is fresh market area of flower and fruit stands. Its very pleasant to sit at We entertained the Canadian Ambassador to Germany o a...

Aug 19, 2006 - Cruise: Rostock
We dock in Warnemunde, a holiday resort near Rostock. Nice, sunny and warm, 25 predicted. It was at least that. Breakfast of herrings - several different kinds - yum yum. Even Marta enjoyed them. Our 3-hour tour of Rostock starts at 9:00. Very well informed young female guide. Interesting town, dating back to pre-1200s. Great olde worlde charm with current population of some 1.2M. Would like to have gone back but not really the time. Instead we walked around Warnemunde, a former fishing village, now holiday resort. Population about 6000....
