Jul 7, 2011 - Delayed by a serious mishap

For many weeks, Germany was my Shangri-La, a place of nice cycle routes and careful drivers, not to mention tasty scenery and dramatic beer. But I'll be honest, since Dresden I haven't had a lot of fun. After taking two days to Leipzig, the wind got even worse. I left the hostel in Leipzig and immediately joined one of that city's excellent cycle paths, where a discarded paper bag was hurtling towards me at some speed. It set the tone for the next few days, the wind was directly at me, and sapped my energy and morale like nothing before:...

Aug 9, 2005 - The Grimms Brothers Fairy Tale Road

Our next stop is right back in the Cologne area, to pack up for our real departure. A look on the map showed that we could go the Autobahn way and be there in a few hours or we could take the Fairy Tale Road, slower but cuter. We took the Fairy Tale Road. The Grimms Brothers lived in the area and the idea is that their tales are based on some locations along this route. We saw Rapunzel's tower, Sleeping Beauty's home and Cinderella's castle after the shoe fit. It's now a ruin though, I guess the stepsisters couldn't keep up with the work....

Aug 29, 2004 - Now Europe...

We have now made it to Europe and are VERY much enjoying the new country, new continent, and most of all... FAMILY time! It is difficult to relay how exciting it was to see Peter, Kati, and Tristan as we got off the train from Frankfurt. We have lots of interesting stories and photos to share.
