Jun 4, 2008 - Germany (Nurnberg)
Knaus Camping Ground, Nurnberg, Germany. Woke up this morning not feeling the best. Have caught a cold and spent most of the night tossing and turning. Spent the day sniffing and using a rain forest worth of paper tissues. It rained most of the night and temperatures were a bit lower than Berlin. Quite noisy in the campervan (wonns mobile) when it rains. Had breakfast. Toast (burnt over the gas stove) and peanut butter plus boiled eggs. We are eating pretty well and are managing to stay away from the bad food. Went and got directions from...Jump to full entry
May 4, 2008 - Dresden to Nuremburg
Day 7 – Dresden to Nurenburg For some reason, I woke up at 5:15 am this morning. So, I started on my trip journal from the previous day until it was time to get dressed and go down for breakfast. It was a little hazy outside, but sunny and cool. In fact, we could see our breath! From our balcony, we could see a hot air balloon in the distance. After a buffet breakfast, we got onto the bus, and started on our way to Nuremburg. The landscape started to look hillier with pine trees, with little villages of white houses with clay-roofs nestled...Jump to full entry
Jul 23, 2007 - Day 13 - July 23 - Prague to Nuremberg.
Day 13 - July 23 (Monday) Today was a big travel day. We checked out of our apartment in Prague and were on our way to Nuremberg (Nűrnberg). The weather was perfect for traveling. Before we left, we had planned meticulously how we were going to exit the city through the one-way, winding, cobble stoned streets without getting too lost. As it turned out, we only had to make one turn and we were on the road to the autobahn that would get us out of Dodge. We got some gas along the way because the price of gasoline outside of Germany is much...Jump to full entry
May 25, 2007 - Heading west on the autobahns, to Nurnberg.
A surprise for you, and for us! We are on our way west, with plans to spend some time in Ireland and the UK. The hard work of finding food, shelter and fuel in unfamiliar languages has caught up with us (or, perhaps, just with me). I'm ready, and Glen seems eager, to get back to more familiar territory, and especially to a place where we can have relaxed conversations with the locals and say more than please and thank you to people in shops and hotels. (Okay, I'm homesick!) We turned west this morning, and booted it on the freeways as far...Jump to full entry
Dec 27, 2006 - Oh what a night!
Today was a chill out day during the day. I got some reading done and downloaded my pictures onto Kerstin's computer. Sven and his girlfriend Mikayla came over for coffee. After dinner we went to another birthday party. Kerstin's friend was turning 50. She rented out a youth center and had a free bar and some food. Then I find out that we have to introduce ourselves to 2 people we don't know and tell them about ourselves and how we know the birthday girl. Well, I don't speak german so i'm thinking I don't have to participate....wrong! I end...Jump to full entry
Dec 22, 2006 - Nurnberg
We packed up all of our stuff and headed up to Nurnberg. We had to drive on the Autobahn to get there. Wow, scariest road ever in my entire life. Luckily there was no snow or ice in Germany. I looked over at one point and Kerstin is driving 160 km/hr and people are flying past us. Then I get distracted by the countryside and when I look back she is now driving 180 km/hr. I was holding onto the door handle really tightly. There is one part of the autobahn where you have to drive 100 km/hr since there was so many accidents at this one spot....Jump to full entry
Sep 20, 2006 - Nurenberg, Germany
Sept. 20th. Last stop in Germany, Nurenberg a city surrounded by two stone walls 600 years old. We were fortunate to arrive on Market Day. There was an open air, cobblestone street pedestrian mall with all kinds of stalls winding through the area. There was fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, meat, clothing, kitchen items and so many beautiful flower stalls, candy and baking - we tried a pretzel. We found Germany to be a very neat, clean country It was noted the taxis are Mercedes Benz - luxury! We crossed the Czech Republic - border...Jump to full entry
Jun 25, 2006 - A Sea of Orange...
Gippy has decided to chuck a tantrum & we think he needs his radiator replaced, so we're hanging around in Nuremberg, Germany, as typically it's a weekend & no service centres are open. So here we are not realizing that one of tonight's big World Cup games (Netheralands/Portugal) is being held here! Of course the campground was full & we were turned away & directed to the 'Fan Site'. Now we are in what used to be a public-swimming-pool-complex-come-temporary-campground. On arrival we were given a 'fan pack' containing a seat cushion in...Jump to full entry
Jun 21, 2006 - To Nuremberg......again!
Wow, we thought our room was a bustling place in the morning. In our new room everyone was up by 8. So we went down to see if Anya unlocked the door to our real room. She did in fact open the door, so John went back to sleep for another 2 hours while Kevin Sketched. Eventually we got ourselves packed, we checked out and we said an emotional goodbye to Anya. She was really kind of like a mother figure to us. She made us food and wine and told us stories. Then she locked us out for some reason! We went to the Gemaldegallerie (no it's not a...Jump to full entry
Jun 15, 2006 - Nuremberg and England vs. TnT
John and Kevin woke up at 9:58am (after being up till 4:30am) and remembered that checkout time was at 10am. We slowly got ready and had our free continental breakfast (bread) with our flat mates. We then said our emotional goodbyes to Prague, picked up some more Absinth and set our course for Nuremberg. As mentioned before, the Czech roads are much less than spectacular. We were on course for Nuremberg on a major highway then 20 minutes later we were diverted to a smaller one due to construction. So again we were forced to go through all...Jump to full entry
Dec 14, 2005 - Back Home
So I'm back home now. Nothing has really changed here, it feels more like I've been away for two weeks instead of a whole year. It's good to see my family and friends again, be back in my own room and sleep in my own bed. I still miss Australia, can't wait to come back. At least I've still got triple J to listen to, blessed be the internet... Weather here is bad, rainy-snowy and very cold, and my cold is not getting better. Good excuse to stay at home in bed at least. This page will still be online till the end of January and I'll upload...Jump to full entry
