Aug 23, 2012 - Stuttgart Germany

The Porsche Museum. A great day, Simona even got excited by the building and the cars within, the interactive displays were great at explaining some of the cars systems and I think Simona now understands the workings of an internal combustion engine. we spent almost 3 and a half hours there without getting board. the sales showroom was conveniently located across the road. :-) The building is quite impressive however as a defect focused professional, it seems the floor stone slabs failed, the large stone tiles were all cracked I assume from...

Jun 15, 2012 - Stuttgart

After two days in Konstanz in the southeast of Germany, we headed north about 120 miles to the city of Stuttgart for a three day stay. Stuttgart is one of the largest and most important cities in Germany. It started as a stud farm known as Stutengarten, thus its name, Stuttgart. It is beautifully situated among picturesque hills and is a well-recognized cultural center. Its other claim to fame is the Mercedes Benz Museum that we visited. HOTEL AM SLOSSGARTEN We chose this five star hotel for its excellent location with the main...

Germany 2012

Jun 9, 2012 - Stuttgart

First up today, Vicki and I went with Thomas into Sindlefingen to the fresh markets. Sindelfingen is the closest town and is at the headwaters of the Schwippe (a tributary of the Würm) It is also the site of a Mercedes-Benz assembly plant. The food at the market all looked so good and fresh. The flowers were also beautiful and Vicki couldn’t get over the fact that 10 long stem roses cost only 4 Euro. We went for a walk around the old town that has some amazing old buildings. The first documented mention of the town was in 1155 and we saw...

2012 Driving Europe

Jul 8, 2011 - Greece to Germany

Our travel day started with a quick motor up to Gouvia Marina where the sailboat was scheduled to be dropped off. We made coffee then showered and packed underway. We sailed by the 300 year old Venetian boat yards on the lovely coast north of Corfu. Our captain Andreas said goodbye and left us to finish our packing while he caught the ferry for home. We had a nice breakfast overlooking the 960 yacht berths, which included two amazing 45 metre twin masted sailboats. We now need two taxis to get our luggage and growing teens to the airport....

Jul 7, 2011 - Stuttgart, Germany: Mercedes-Benz

The following morning we drove to Stuttgart to see the Mercedes-Benz Museum. We spent a day visiting the impressive building housing four stories worth of exhibits. It was interesting to learn that Benz and Daimler each independently developed engines and vehicles, residing within 60 miles of each other, yet they never met. As we now know, the two companies would eventually merge.

Jun 27, 2011 - The Birth of the Mercedes

The due date for the new addition to the family has finally arrived! We ate breakfast in the hotel (compliments of Mercedes) and enjoyed a typical European buffet of scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, a variety of meats to include schinken, , Nuremberger bratwurst, smoked salmon; brochen; cheeses; juices; fruit; mueslix, and mueslix toppings. Frank was understandably nervous as this addition to his family, although extremely well deserved, is an extravagance he has never taken for himself. The adventure began first thing as we exited the hotel....

Jun 26, 2011 - The Trip to Stuttgart

June 27, 2011 We debarked the ship today. It is hard to believe that the cruise is over. 8 days went extremely fast! As we were the last to board the boat, we felt it was only right that we were the last to leave. It was sad to say goodbye to our new friends, Roger & Georgia, but we had a great time with them! From the ship, we took the train from Wurzburg to Stuttgart. It was interesting handling 9 suitcases, but we made it!! Luckily, the train was not crowded at any stop, and our suitcases were able to have a set of 4 seats all to...

Jun 23, 2011 - Exploring Stuttgart

We had a lovely couple of days with our cousins riding, walking and otherwise enjoying being in Germany. We went for a nice bike ride on the extensive bike path network that exists all over Germany, but wound up taking shelter under a roof during a thunderstorm and had fun waiting for the hail to pass. The weather is different than the south of France. On our last morning we visited the Mercedes Benz musuem in Stuttgart. We wanted to make it a quick visit, but it has so much to see that it wound up being more like 5 hours. We got back home,...

Jul 24, 2010 - Lake Konstanz

Tami drove us to Lake Konstanz which is surrounded by Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. It tool about 3 hours to drive there. There is an island which is a park. It contains beautiful gardens, places to play for kids that are unique from what I have seen in the statws. There was a place to go inside and see various butterflies in a terrarium type environment/like a green house with tropical plants. We deove back to Kraichtal and went to a street festival in a nearby town. It is the town in which Tami's boyfriend, Svin, grew up. It was like...

Jul 22, 2010 - To Germany by Train

We left the hotel this morning, skipped the bus to the Metro and walked with our suitcases. We really did not want to lug the suitcases on the short ride. Taking all our baggage through the maze of the metro was a bit tiring up and down the stairs...but overall it worked well. The metro car was almost empty...that was a good thing given the 5 of us and our suitcases and about 60 seconds to get in the door. We took the metro to the train station, and left Paris at about 11:25 am. The seating in the train was very comfortable with a nice...

Apr 6, 2010 - Auto Day - Stuttgart

April 6, 2010 Auto Day. We drove our 6 speed Audi wagon on the Autobahn to Stuttgart, home of Porsche and Mercedes Benz. Our GPS computer got us right there, addresses having been obtained from our laptop research. Signage along the way continues to amuse, [I don’t care who you are-a Tonyism]. I know that I am entering a land from which I may not return. In case I do not make a timely return – this is when we entered. We only had time for coffee before Steve was literally twitching to begin the tour. Ok this is cute. Tony needed a...
