May 19, 2019 - Day 5 - Karlsruhe into Switzerland

Day 5 - Sunday 20 May 19 - Karlsruhe A cool overcast morning did not inspire an early start however we were ready for breakfast in the hotel at 0930 hrs. The breakfast room was smaller than it’s attending guests and my request to be seated alongside an Asian couple was met with bewilderment; they departed soon after. The plan for the day was to drive and visit the Schloss’s Ettlingen 8.3km to the south and Gottesaue 2.9 km to the east. The trip to Ettlingen took an extra 12km following a missed turn however we arrived soon after 1030 hrs...

May 18, 2019 - Day 4 - Karlsruhe

Day 4 - Saturday, 19 May 19 - Karlsruhe Early rise for both of us at 0545 hrs and feeling good. To make best use of the day we had an early breakfast at the hotel and at 0830 hrs we were on the road to Karlsruhe. As a Saturday morning, traffic was very light leaving the city but did increase significant as we drove the 140km to our hotel Kaiserhof. We arrived at 1000hrs, well before our check in time however staff did arrange for us to park the car to allow us to walk and explore the city. The first point of interest was the Saturday craft...

Apr 20, 2019 - Day 6 - Karlsruhe / Stuttgart

Easter Sunday we arrived in Karlsruhe on a beautiful sunny day. Cruise guides organized a walk to a cathedral in town. We joined 4 other passengers for a 35 minute walk up to the village. The service was beautiful even though we couldn’t understand the language. It felt like we were at the most beautiful concert with the choir and symphony leading the music. After lunch we joined a bicycle group to tour through the town on e-bikes. Originally we were scheduled to take a tour at the Porsche museum but we canceled due to the fact that it...

Day 20 – Friday 30th September Sulzemoos, Germany - Karlsruhe, Germany - 168miles, total to date = 2,381miles Had a quick look round the motorhome dealership outside sales area last night before we settled down for the night. Very large stock of motorhomes & a very large accessory store, most impressive, even treated Viv to a new can opener. Unfortunately I couldn't get a left handed one so I am still lumbered with the can opening job.life is unfair some times? We had a steady run up the motorway today to a free site by the Rhine in...

Jun 5, 2013 - Jockgrim

On the 5th of June we left Leverkusen in Reinhardt's Ford Escort, a small vehicle, headed to Jockgrim, a small village about 20 minutes by train from Karlsruhe, to visit Jutta's mother. There were 4 of us with all our luggage packed into the Escort. You might think that we were all cramped, but in fact we were quite comfortable. Dot and I have become advocates for smaller vehicles, and our next vehicle will be a more modestly sized car. Think gas mileage! Anyways, Jockgrim was about 3 to 4 hours south of Leverkusen. We took the picturesque...

Sep 11, 2010 - Germany

What a week! Exactly one week ago we left Sydney and started off on our adventure. The mission: to find and buy a suitable van (preferrably 8/9 seater) in Germany and drive all the way to Armenia, with 3 kids in tow. And right now, Im writing from Austria, which means we have not only bought a van but have driven to the next country on our route towards Yerevan! All I can say is praise God for making all things possible! Most of our week, we have been based in Karlsruhe, Germany. A town that we probably would not have gone to if we were...

Sep 27, 2008 - The Black Forest

The first day we were at Tanja's house (1/2 the German couple) she took us to Heildelberg. It was a cute town about an hour north of where she lives (Karlsruhe). There we walked around town, went on a boat ride down the river, ate at the smallest Hard Rock Cafe (with the worst bloody mary's) and climbed up the tower of a church. From the top of the tower there was a pretty view of the whole town. That night Tanja and Jens took us out to dinner to this traditional German restaurant by where she lives. It was so good. I have no idea what it...
