Jun 4, 2011 - Another Runner's Delight

Eventhough I am getting older I think I am getting to be a faster runner. This morning I ran through four towns in just over an hour; from Eibensbach to Pfaffenhofen to Guglingen to Frauenzimmern and back to Eibensbach. Geez, I must be fast...er...on second thought, these towns are pretty close together!

Jun 2, 2011 - How we spent Father's Day (Ascension Day) in Germany

Today was a holiday in Germany. We hiked for a few hours through the fields, forests and vineyards around Eibensbach. At the halfway point in the forest, in true German style, there was a hut where folks were selling a variety of local wine, beer and sausages. The wine is from the immediate area where they grow Gerwurstraminer, Sylvaner and, as one of Rita’s uncles used to say, “Reisling: The King of Grapes!” This area is one of the few places in Germany where they grow red grapes and produce Lemberger wine. Lemberger is a thinner red wine...

Jun 1, 2011 - Eibensbach, Deutschland

We flew from London to Stuttgart. Rita’s cousin Jutta and her husband, Gerhard picked us up at the airport. As soon as we got onto the autobahn we hit a Stau (traffic jam) which is not uncommon in Germany these days. After inching along for over 30 minutes Gerhard was able to open it up and hit some of the famous autobahn speeds. The armrest of the seat Rita was sitting at still has her finger prints embedded in it…just kidding, Gerhard…only hit 150 kph! Soon after dropping off our bags at Jutta’s house, otherwise known as “Hotel Roesinger”...
