Feb 28, 2014 - La Orana from Tahiti

La Orana from Tahiti. What can I say about Tahiti - not a lot. I had researched the area of french polynesia and whilst Bora Bora has always been at the top of my bucket list I always say that I want to keep her for my honeymoon - if I am ever lucky enough to have one!! However, the beautiful island of Moorea is a short 15km away and this is where I had decided to visit. Unfortunately the time the plane arrived from Rarotonga into Tahiti meant that there were no flight connections to Moorea even though this is only a short 7 minute flight!...

Feb 16, 2012 - Papeete, Tahiti

We anchor in Papeete (meaning “water from a basket”) early in the morning. We are thrilled to see land again as we have been at sea for 4 days. It was a beautiful sail-in past the dark green island of Moorea and the mountaineous view of Papeete. We walk off the ship and have to cross the four-lane Pomare boulevard with no traffic light. As we cross the first two lanes, Deb comments, “That was easy.” Courtney replies, “Duh…Mom; there was no traffic”. The last two lanes don’t look as easy. However, the moment we step into the crosswalk, the...

Feb 14, 2012 - Valentine's Day!

Love is in the air even in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The ship has florists on board and they have created beautiful floral creations decked out in red and hearts. Tonight is formal night in the dining room and it is elaborately decorated. This history of Valentine’s Day is interesting. In the third century, Roman emperor, Claudius II cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome to get more soldiers to join his army. Two priests in Rome aided the Christians by secretly marrying couples. For this kind deed, one priest was martyred...

Dec 2, 2011 - One Day in Tahiti

We arrived at Papeete airport just before midnight on 01 December, shuttled to the Sofitel, and checked into our room. We slept for a few hours and woke up around 5 (10 AM in EST) and had a delicious breakfast with wonderful fresh fruit. We walked around the hotel and took some pictures, before getting picked up for our 4X4 expedition with Tahiti Safari Expedition. The tour guide took us into Papenoo Valley to see the countless waterfalls flowing down from the mountains. We stopped at the dam and the guide chummed the water to attract some...

Sep 15, 2009 - Tahiti - French Polynesia

I got to Tahiti at 5.00 pm just in time to watch a breathtaking sunset falling behind the island of Morea. I was staying at the Intercontinental, probably the best resort on the island! Mind you, there was not much difference in price between the cheapest and the most expensive...everywhere was dear! I was a bit skeptical about spending £ 200 per night for a double room and breakfast, but it was worth it! It was just unbelievable, I had the best breakfast of my life (well...maybe that is a slight overstatement), but it was just so good, and...
