Jul 10, 2018 - Annecy

This is another beautiful part of France only a short drive from Chamonix. Sitting at the top Lac d'Annecy this is very popular holiday destination for both overseas and French tourists. Our hotel overlooks the lake and is only a short walk into the town centre and the "old town". This morning we did a lovely two hour cruise around the lake - some of the lakeside properties are great. The town and surrounding districts sit lakeside so the roads and pathways are relatively flat and designed for the thousands of cyclists. The old town has...

Jul 8, 2018 - Chamonix

A fantastic day in Chamonix today! The day was just perfect to get high into the Alps. We started the day by taking the cable car up Auguille du Midi - a mountain over 12,000 feet high not far from Mont Blanc. It took two cable car rides to get close to the top and then an elevator ride, inside the mountain to get to the summit. The views back down to Chamonix and of the surrounding alps were tremendous. After lunch we took a train ride to Montenvers Mer de Glacé, again high in the alps to see a glacier. The glacier has retreated so much...

Had a good drive to Chamonix this morning. Most of the journey was on motorways but the last 50klm was on very challenging winding and narrow roads. Hotel is about 15 minute walk from the town centre - lovely day today but forecast to be cloudy tomorrow. Photos attached today are from last few days.

Drove around the corner where Grace Kelly, princess of Monaco lost her life whilst driving...
