Sep 6, 2019 - Days 6 and 7 in Lyon

2 days in Lyon Highlights Thursday 5th - 2 hour ´free’ walking tour. ( we gave €10 tip per person). The guide was very good - Saw the old town area including, the cathedral, traboules (covered passageways), silk weaving loom, bouchons ( traditional cafes) and part of the new town area. If in Lyon I recommend this guide www.freetourlyon.com - Tom was delighted with the guide’s recommendation for a coffee shop. He finally got his favourite style of coffee (flat white) and the barista was very nervous once she found out we were Australian....

Sep 4, 2019 - Day 5 Villebois to Lyon

Day 5 Highlights - again a variety of very busy roads (luckily not for long each time) - Route was quite clearly marked but as we approached Lyon the signposts disappeared for about 10km. Luckily I had the gpx route on my phone so we mostly avoided main roads. - Nice riding thru the huge park on outskirts of Lyon , but has to keep our wits about us as the signposting g was difficult to see and understand at times - VERY steep climb to our accommodation in Croix Rousse. - Lovely apartment overlooking a large square. - AirBnb host...

Aug 25, 2019 - Back in France

August 6 – 8 On our way back to No. 1 we decided to spend a couple of days in Corfu – so after a bus and ferry ride we ended up in an apartment more or less in the centre of the old town. Wandered around the old town – at night it was heaving and during the day went up to the fort and the lighthouse to enjoy wonderful views of the city and surrounding islands. Brilliant. We don’t know whether we will be back in waters again. August 8 - 11 Back in Condrieau France. Spent a couple of days in the marina getting ready for our onward journey....

Aug 13, 2019 - Back in Greece

Friday 26 July Left mid morning and proceeded down to Nidri and anchored in Tranquil Bay. In the afternoon watched boats coming and going into the anchorage – some anchoring a bit too close for comfort. Took the new dinghy ashore – it will take a little getting used to. Saturday 27 July Moved a short distance to Vliho and in the afternoon went onto Gwen and Pete’s boat for a fab bbq. Great afternoon/evening. Sunday 28 July Went to a beautiful anchorage on the mainland near the mostly deserted holiday village, Varko. Gorgeous surroundings...

Jul 25, 2019 - More of the Rhone

Sunday 7 July Nearing our next destination, anchored off one of the tributaries. We’ve enjoyed the Rhone but must say at times the scenery has been a bit boring – just when you think you’re going to have a nice view a power station or other industry pops into view – I guess it is a working river after all, and to add to our emotions it has been extremely hot. Monday 8 July Just a short hop, through another lock and then into the marina where No. 1 will be for a while. Met some wonderful people in the afternoon – our boat neighbours are...

Jul 12, 2019 - Around Bourg-d’Oisans

Bourg-d’Oisans - Le Col du Galibier Last night we ate in the restaurant attached to the Gite. We were the only customers. Bruce ordered a pizza and I ordered a hamburger and chips. The amusing thing is that, outside the restaurant there was a food truck making pizzas and a second food truck making hamburgers. What we never found out was; did the kitchen actually make our meals or did they outsource to the food vans and then add their profit margin? Despite that, the prices were only half what we paid in Switzerland. This morning, Thursday,...

Jul 10, 2019 - Geneva and Bourg-d’Oisans

Geneva rest day After breakfast we said goodbye to those of the Edelweiss Epic who were leaving during the day. Bruce and I wandered into the city of Geneva looking for interesting buildings, squares or other cultural items. Sadly we were somewhat disappointed. Geneva does not seem to have an ‘old’ quarter and even the Catholic basilica, when we found it, seemed rather subdued. We kept walking until we found a bridge over the Rhone river and saw, at last, some interesting buildings. The first was almost in the middle of the river and looked...

Mar 17, 2019 - Chamonix Snowboarding!

The next morning Karin and I went to the train station and I was off to France! I was traveling solo to Chamoix France to snowboard. I have finally gotten the hang of carrying my giant snowboard back and figuring out what trains to take. I’m pretty proud of myself. Going into France was crazy. I only had a few minutes to make a connection and I wasn’t really sure what I was doing but I just got onto a super small train. EVERYONE on this train was an old German person that spoke no English. The train started and I was hoping that I was going...
