With an exciting drive through the Alps and a twenty km tunnel underneath them, we emerged back in France to rolling hillside and slightly cooler skies ~32c, to land in Lyon. ... Which is at the confluence of the Loire and Burgundy regions (aka lots and lots of really great cheap wine in every corner store)! Lyon has a few interesting sites, not one but two fairly intact Roman forums side by side. ... The rules, history, characters, drama, wonder and popularity of Le Tour de France makes for fascinating reading but it is not the purpose of this blog to throw too much of that kind of information around. The all important 18th stage individual time trial has been scheduled in Annecy, a picture perfect miniature Venice sitting on it’s beautiful lake. ... Perhaps a year in Europe sometime would allow such a break within a break! Since we had been alerted by friends who had ridden to Annecy that Heathrow was now expecting the coach to leave at 6 pm despite having announced previously that it would depart at 7 pm, we arrive on time. ...
