Oct 4, 2012 - Entry 8 & 9

9-30 Port of Entry, Italy Today is our last full day in Italy. Yesterday we explored the 5 small fishing villages at port of Entry. It was a rainy day so we were unable to hike the trails between towns and instead took trains. I’m finding that everyone is a bit on edge. I think it will be like this for a few days. I think it’s a bit of too much togetherness. One of my bunkmates is driving me nuts. He bathed today for the first time in about 10 days and his laundry bag makes the room smell like the devil’s spawn. 10-4 Saint Tropez,...

The Experience

Apr 4, 2012 - Saint Tropez

It rained all day in Saint Tropez… but since we’d never been here we had to have a couple of photo’s and see what the place looks like… even in the rain. Obviously, weather changes the way everything appears… As you can see from the photos… not much was happening in Saint Tropez! It was another pretty little French town designed for sunny weather! Oh well, we can check it off!

Barcelona-Venice

Sep 30, 2011 - Saint-Tropez

To close out September and welcome October we dashed off to Saint-Tropez, which sits on a small peninsula and is surrounded by sandy beaches and warm waters. On Friday we drove straight for 9 km long Plage de Pampelonne which had big waves. We parked and headed for the beach only to realize we had popped out onto a naturist beach (swimsuits prohibited)! Asking Janna and Carmen to hold their questions, we scooted across the sand quickly to a more swimsuit-tolerant beach down the way! This beach had the first big waves Janna and Carmen had...

Le Mais Huskers

Jun 12, 2011 - St Tropez, France

Continuing our lovely drive along the Cote d'Azur, we enjoyed both the seaside views and the attractive towns we passed. The landscaping along the roadway medians and roundabouts is beautiful with palms, oleander, flowers and flowering shrubs and a variety of interesting trees and plants. Everything seems well-manicured and artistically arranged. It is difficult to take it all in and impossible to capture the ambiance in photos. We drove into St. Tropez and walked about the town, taking in the pretty facades and luxurious yachts encircling...

Nov 28, 2010 - French Riviera

Not much better here either. Highlight was that you can camp on the marina in St Tropez. Decided not to go for the Hermes Christmas presents. Sorry folks. We also visited Port Grimaud, scene of many Martland family holidays centuries ago. Very cute, probably lovely in the summer. French Riviera? Bonjour et au revoir. p.s. I have just been loading the photos and realise that it all looks very sunny. So why are we moaning? It was the only sunny day, honest guv!

Jul 25, 2009 - Saint Tropez (serata VIP)

Jul 25, 2009 - Saint Tropez (speciale)

Jul 22, 2009 - saint tropez france. playground of the rich and beautiful.

This place was awesome we pulled in to a packed crowd that gathers from 5pm every day to see all the big yachts come in. the 'thing to do' is come in as late as you can squeeze past all the boats and stern tie in front of all of the crowd. apart from that its a really nice preserved little town and all the rich, famous and beautiful people come to hang out. i payed $7euros for a crap coffee (thats about $11 aussie for a coffee), the only thing i bought was a couple of post cards and a gelato icecream here and there.

Aug 12, 2007 - The Alps to St Tropez

Sunday 12th August: We spent the morning driving along the gorge rim stopping of every few hundred meters to look at the view. The gorge was so huge, the largest in Europe. You could have taken a hike down to the gorge floor but Lex and I were feeling lazy so we just looked at the view from the top. We continued our drive towards the Cote D Azur and stopped of at Grasse for a look through the Fragonard perfumery. I didn't last to long before the smell got to me and my eyes started to sting, so I had to leave and wait for Lex outside. Cannes...

Dec 24, 2006 - I wasn't cold on Christmas!

Christmas vacation!!! After two days in Paris, my parents and I flew down to Nice to go to my grandma's in St. Raphael. We walked out of the airport in Nice and it was in the 60s and absolutely beautiful. It was paradise. I have now decided that I'm going to need to move somewhere warm because I won't be able to handle cold winters anymore after being in the South of France for two weeks and not wearing a coat on Christmas day. It was absolutely perfect. Our two weeks consisted of visiting little villages (like Bargème in my photos with the...

Jul 29, 2006 - St Tropez - Ramatuelle

Amazingly enough we found a free camp spot on the Cote de Azure! Well almost... France has a fantastic system of service sites set up by the local councils especially for RV's, for either no or minimal cost. We spent the next couple of nights in a site only 15 mins from St Tropez and even better, only 200m from the beach for 7 euros a night! So we spent the next few days being lazy, relaxing by the van with a book or laying on the beach. It turned out that the beach near the site was a nude beach! And frighteningly it was mostly old, hairy...

Jul 17, 2006 - France - Nice/Monaco/Monte Carlo

So we took the train into Nice which was very pleasant. ...lot's of cliffside homes in an array of colors. Nice was BLAZING HOT and it was a real bear hiking it up to our hostel, which was 30 minutes up the hill. Hostel was great and there were people everywhere. Our hostel was an old monastary so there was lots of room. First day we decided to go to a beach about 10 minutes away. It was one of those beaches you only see in a travel brochure. Only problem was that the beach had rounded stones instead of sand, and it really hurt your feet...
