Nice Nice was a welcome relief from our adventures on the French/Italian transport systems. ... It took us a total of 23hours to leave our hotel in Rome and arrive in our Nice Hotel! We caught three different trains (in italy of course) and then three different buses (in France);and also walked another three kilometres:which included walking across the Italian-French border and walking from one side of the town, Menton, to the other. ... Finally we arrived in Ventimiglia to find that the only way to get to Nice was to catch a taxi, costing €100; Luckily, we found some Chinese businessmen who were based in Milan, and who also wanted to reach Nice. ... Also on this bus, we met another 10 or so travellers, aiming for Nice. ... To picture him:he had a lazy left eye, trackpants that needed more elastic, a top that only just sat over his belly, a worn maroon cardigan, glasses halfway down his nose and velcro-strapped running shoes!He was very helpful, despite our initial reservations! Following him, we walked across the border, along the waterfront, through the town, then finally arrived at the bus stop, where we boarded an hour and a half crowded bus to Nice. ... Bonjour from Nice! Jesse and I arrived in Nice after a morning train ride from Florence and walked for a few blocks to reach our hotel to check in. ... The weather was beautiful during our stay (about 25 and sunny) and it wasn't very busy so we got to see Nice at the perfect time. ... Our second day in Nice we took a train to Cannes in the morning to visit the sight of the famous film festival and it's beautiful beaches. ... After a few hours in the city we took a train bqck to Nice and did some shopping along the main road (I got an amazing deal on a beautiful coat I couldn't pass up). ... So here we are back in France, on the lovely French Riviera in Nice! We spent most of yesterday travelling here from Barcelona - a 12-hour journey, first on a sloooow, ooooold train to Montpellier and then a faster, newer train to Nice. ... Apart from that, the trip was uneventful and we arrived in Nice in time for dinner with Mei, Mike, Katharine and Sam, who are all visiting Nice during Sam's school holidays. ... Today we uncovered the nuts and bolts of the Nice bus system to get to the train station to purchase our ongoing tickets to Florence. ... The church is a colourful example of Russian orthodox architecture, but not surprisingly we arrived just as it was closing for lunch!
