Hi all, Took the train from Cannes to Monaco today. Lovely train trip beside the Mediterranean. About an hours trip. Monaco, the land of defibrillators every 80 meters. Must be because there are so many rich people there who have lived life a little too generously and have chronic heart conditions. This combined with the steep hills must mean that heart attacks are a regular occurrence. There are literally defibrillators stationed on every street. We had a great time there. Took a "petit train" trip around Monaco and Monte Carlo. Saw the...

Hi again everybody, Still in Cannes and the weather has been lovely. Went for a swim down on the beach this morning. Beautiful sandy beach which, once again, has private areas restricted to the hotels. Look, there are some great sights on the beach but there needs to be a law about over 60s going topless. Why? Shopping for Norm and Brenda today. Norm actually bought some things, Brenda not so successful. But I'm sure she will return to the winners list in the not to distant future. She enjoyed the macaroons I got her. Caught Le Petit Train...

Arrived in Cannes. The city of the movie festival. It is an expensive city on the Mediterranean. We managed to find the hotel all right and parked the car in a public car park. The apartment is not so flash. Brenda will confirm this. But it is within 200 meters of the beach and right in the heart of the Cannes shopping precinct. Unfortunately there is no lift in the apartment block. Unfortunately Brenda and I are on the top floor. Unfortunately I had to carry the bags up the stairs............4 flights. 92 steps but who's counting. After...

Apr 5, 2012 - Cannes

Since we’ve been here before… we decided to pass on going ashore and just have a relaxing day on-board. A lazy day, much like the sea days of the past, sleep late, good food and watching the Masters live (one advantage of the time difference) until midnight!

Barcelona-Venice

Sep 15, 2011 - Cannes, France

Thursday, September 15 - Cannes, France There is so much to see in this area and I really goofed as far as allotting time here. Really we should have spent a few days in Nice before departing for the US, but we chose to stop in London instead which meant we had to pack a lot into one day, so I arranged for a private guide to take us to all these fabulous areas. We asked Joanne and Jack Whigham from Chicago to come along with us as they had mentioned they wanted to see all the areas we had asked to see and Seabourn wasn’t offering anything...

Jun 13, 2011 - Cannes to Antibes, France

The next day we drove to Cannes, stopping along the way to marvel at the little coves and seaside vistas along the coast. At every curve in the road were magnificent vistas, turquoise water, and lots of little niches to take a dip in the sea. Once in Cannes, we parked in town and strolled along the expansive La Croisette. This wide boulevard runs for 3 kilometers along the bay in Cannes with sun seekers enjoying the beach and more upscale sundecks along the water. Opposite the beach, the other side of La Croisette avenue is lined with...

May 1, 2011 - Cannes, France

I decided to visit Cannes, France in May to visit its wonderful beaches, to see the beautiful city, and to see the famous Cannes film festival. Cannes is situated on the French Riviera in south east France. this means that it is on the Mediterranean sea and it is also surrounded by hills. The city was originally a small fishing village and grew when an English Barron made his villa there. The population currently is around 67 thousand. Some main sites i visited was the famous church of Notre Dame, the Lycklama Museum, and the Promenade de...

Our first stop was Cannes on the French Riviera. We joined up on a shore excursion to the mideaval town of Eze and the famous resort of Nice. In Eze we climbed to the Jardin Exotique, the highest pint in town. The beautiful park contains all sorts of succulents and tropical plants. We separated from the group again in Nice to do a little shopping.

Jul 12, 2010 - Girls charter

We have been racing around with the boss’s girlfriend and her friends for a week now and the boss calls most days to make sure they are not just sitting dockside in Antibes and going shopping. He made sure I knew that he wasn’t going to stand for them not going places and seeing things and suggested a couple of places that take even us a good couple of hours at full speed to reach. Portofino, we can do if the weather is good in just under 3 ½ hours and the Porquerolles about the same but in the other direction. Throw into this whole...

Jun 15, 2010 - Cannes

Finally arriving in Cannes after such a long and awful journey, we were a little disappointed that the weather was forecast to storm all week. But, luckily, it rained Tuesday night whilst we slept and was hot and sunny for the rest of the week! On the first night we had a quick look around Cannes and had some delicious fish in a restaurant on the seafront before finally getting some sleep. On Wednesday we explored the old part of Cannes, le Suquet, which was absolutely beautiful and very unexpected, climbing to the top of the hill of the...

May 19, 2010 - always an opportunity to learn!

Well, our rental car got towed. C'est enlevee en francais -- in case you ever need to know. Apparently we did not understand a sign about parking. Quelle suprise! So, we got to meet the police municipale, who close their office for lunch from noon to 2:30 -- in case you ever need to know that. They were very nice, but spoke no English. Andy's solution to this is just to keep telling them what happened in English. This doesn't work -- in case etc. I limped along with ou est notre voiture and combien pour retrouver le voiture and other highly...

May 18, 2010 - les chats

There are lots of cats around the village here. Lean and lithe. Not too cuddly. Their attitude seems to be -- non, non, I am a French cat. I do not wish to be petted by you. Why are you looking at me and making silly noises? I am leaving now. Still, fun to see them.
