Sep 14, 2014 - 9th Port on Med. Cruise - Toulon, France

What a pleasant surprise this place was. We were told it was just a port town. It was, but it was quaint and beautiful. Lots of vegetation and sorry undead by mountains. It is actually home to some of France's fleet and we saw a number of ships including a big aircraft carrier. Audi was up bright and early to get some shots of it while pulling into port. Toe Pic over the railing with a yacht club behind. We got off the ship about 10 AM and Ronnie, Sandra, Ivan and Diane and us took the public bus towards the beach. Unfortunately it had to...

Living the Dream

Jun 10, 2014 - Toulon, Bandol, Sanary-sur-Mer, France

10 June 2014 Up and about early again.....thought we were on holiday!!! Today we dock again in the Port of Toulon and have booked a tour that will take us on a scenic drive along the Riviera en route to Bandol. Initially the drive out of the port and through Toulon city is painfully slow; the roads are very narrow and definitely not adequate for the amount of traffic to and from the port, which is very large. Apr 25, 2014 - Lest we forget - Anzac Day 2014 on the French Riviera

French Navy frigates framed our first view of the Toulon harbour. How fitting on Anzac Day. To commemorate the day, we bought a small trinkets box with hand-painted poppies on it from its artist at the local craft market. A reasonably warm day today on the Côte d'Azur. Close to 20. We didn't do an organised tour excursion, as a self-guided wander around the streets was all that appealed after several busy days in Paris & Spain! The local Provence produce at the markets opposite the waterfront looked fabulous!! For those amongst you who...

Nov 28, 2012 - Toulon

The next stop was Toulun, France. We didn’t even get off the boat; I think we were just worn out as we had been in a different city every day for more than two weeks! That evening we had some real excitement. The captain had announced that we were going to try to skirt around a storm in the Mediterranean which might take a bit more time, but we would get to Barcelona on time! Well, he wasn’t able to skirt it entirely. About midnight the boat started really rocking! Basically, I just lay in bed and tried not to fall out. Mike managed to get...
