We spent the night at Saint-Hilaire-de-Villefranche, when we got to our BNB there there was some confusion about our booking. This set off a series of recriminations between the various members of the family present as to who had taken the booking and where they had written it down. Eventually we were shown to our room, at the top of the stairs in a very charming old house. The room was mostly filled by two large beds built at nose-bleed high above the floor. Cognac is a wonderful town and somewhere Bob and I have wanted to visit for ever - and especially after seeing an HGTV presentation of a house here. HA I know, it's a confession, I should not make in public, but it is a wonderful city and we hope to return to do some tasting. We were a bit early, the market was open, which we loved, then on to our house.

May 28, 2012 - Cognac & Perignac

Decided to do a little bit of backtracking and visit the town of Cognac, home of course to the famous drink. There are many Cognac houses in the district and I made an online booking with Rem Martin to do their tour at 4pm. So after arriving around midday first we visited the town itself. It is another public holiday today, so most of the shops were closed, but the town of Cognac, a medieval town, is attractive with its narrow medieval cobbled streets and elegant Renaissance facades. Feb 23, 2005 - Cognac

Cognac is a sleepy town at this time of year and we felt like we had the place to ourselves. We arrived at 8am to find that bus and taxi drivers don't show up for work until 9:30am. So, we hoofed it (snowing again, of course)to the most beautiful bed and breakfast we've laid our eyes on. By the way, everyone tells us that this is the coldest winter in some time.
