Aug 1, 2014 - Arrived in La Trinite-sur-Mer yesterday

We enjoyed a lovely day out on the water yesterday .We mostly floated along slowly with a light wind, a very calm sea and lots of sun until the wind picked up in the afternoon. We tried drift fishing for a flat fish as we crossed the bay but only had a nibble so no exciting photos to add unfortunately. The weather forecast was for rain overnight and rain this morning so we will try to get the bikes out and go exploring. That might be a bit tricky to do as we are rafted up against another boat and there is quite a swell but since we are only...

Jul 29, 2014 - Moving on further north to Crouesty

We spent 3 nights at Crouesty's which was described by people we know as being like a bigger version of Eastbourne Marina. There was lots to see because the Morbihan Bay is just around the corner and Vannes is just a few miles further up river. We were lucky with the weather so did lots of cycling on the first day along the Morbihan coast up to Sarzeau and the following day we got on a bus up to Vannes . We motored into the Morbihan Bay as we left for La Trinite at slack water to take a look at Port Navalo but will save exploring the...

Jul 27, 2014 - Leaving Porichet for La Turballe

We had a lovely lazy sail over from Pornishet to La Turballe and very unexpectedly caught a whopper of a sea Bass. It was a job to get it in our net and we were avoiding some shallow areas at the time so it was a team effort and no surprise that we are absolutely delighted after trying so hard over the last couple of months. We hope Paul at home is impressed. We used one of our deep diving lures and were doing over 4 knots at the time and the break on the spool didn't pull so we had no idea we had caught anything. We stopped fishing after...

Jul 26, 2014 - La vendee

Jul 25, 2014 - Arrival in Pornichet

Pornichet is quite a busy place with lovely beaches and lots of fabulous beach side properties on the Pornichet side. We have spent ages deciding which one we would like, lottery permitting . We have only stayed 2 nights and probably just as well because of the amount of eating and drinking here in lovely places and not so much cycling . it's more expensive here than in other little marinas so today we will move on and hope to catch dinner for tonight on the way. The sea has been very calm the last few days and yesterday it turned green in...

Jul 24, 2014 - Arrival in Noirmoutier yesterday

We arrived after a lovely 6 hour sail in light winds and a calm sea with lots of sun, just what we wanted!. Noirmoutier marina was packed so we were rafted up with 4 others and quite a lot of traffic coming past so it was a rocky night. our neighbours were on a Boat called Calypso but not the one we know and love in Eastbourne. It was a Nicholson 39 from Weymouth and obviously we had a few drinks on board with her owners Jill and Richard. Our other neighbours were a French couple non plussed that we spoiled their quiet but we managed to win...

Jul 21, 2014 - Heading back !!! Short stop overnight in Bourgenay

we have decided that we have got to our most southern point if we are to have enough time to amble home and see all the bits we missed and get home at the end of August. We are a bit sad but really chuffed at the same time to have made it to our goal of La Rochelle. Ile d,Oleron was an added bonus. So today is the day that we turn around and start heading back. We got a nice send off by the crew of Tigra this morning and were lucky to avoid most of the heavy rain shown on the radar. The wind was on the nose to start with and Aventura had to...

Jul 20, 2014 - Chilling out in and around Saint Denis Marina Ile d,Oleron

We have stayed 3 nights at Ile d,OleronSaint Denis Marina and really enjoyed it. it's much more relaxed and laid back than Ile de Re and besides one big mother of all storms during the night we have had good weather. Yesterday we cycled out to the lighthouse and the day before we did a mammoth 23 km cycle to Boyardville and back. Unfortunately on that day as we arrived at a lovely beach shattered and hungry it started to rain. The photo of the fort probably shows a cloud heavy sky. We got soaked through but at least it was warm rain and we...

Jul 16, 2014 - Exploring Ile De Re

We have cycled miles in the last few days. We visited a lovely place called "Arse " pronounced as it is spelt so there have been quite a few jokes the type of which my mum and dad wouldn't approve of but probably all our friends would. We visited La Rochelle by bus where we saw a rock star from the 70s being interviewed by "Blue " radio station . We had a fun time with lots of other Brits on the 14 th watching the fireworks on Bastille day and we accidentally tried eating duck gizzards, something I will be avoiding in future. Thankfully...

Jul 16, 2014 - Sail to La Rochelle Les Minimes Marina

We have arrived in La Rochelle Marina where it is very warm but breezy here in Les Minimes . It is 28 degrees and is forecast to be 31 degrees tomorrow so we aim to be out at sea for the hottest bit of the day. The photos today won't be that interesting unless you like boats and bridges.. a few days ago I walked for miles looking at ropes with Geoff so it is my turn to make him suffer shoe shopping as my old faithful Fit Flops have finally broken after years of misuse. he may well make me go to another burger bar later . We here it is also...

Jul 13, 2014 - We are now in Ile De Re' which is connected by a bridge to La Rochelle

We have stayed here for a week because it is such a lovely place and plenty to see and do. Our bottoms are numb from quite a few hours on the bikes as we have explored all over the island. Lots of beaches and quaint little villages. We haven't got any photos of us on the beach which are suitable for general viewing. on the 14 th of July it was Bastille Day and there was a fabulous firework display at 11 pm from the harbour wall. We had a lovely evening with all the British people we have met over the last few days and hope to see...

Jul 8, 2014 - Arrived in Les Sables D,Olonne yesterday.

Yesterday we had a fabulous trip here . Firtly we saw a small pod of dolphins and they swam around the boat right next to us and secondly I caught our first fish. It wasn't a very pretty one but after 40 days at least we have proved that our new reels do actually work. It was a Garfish which is like an eel and this one was about 2 feet long with a long pointed beak. We didn't fancy boning that so we let him go. When we arrived at Les Sables we weren't expecting to like it as much as we do. There is a gorgeous beach and some nice restaurants...
