Jul 6, 2019 - Toulouse and Albi

Bonjour mes amis, We hope you are safe and happy. We are too, but we are over his heatwave. Enough said! We have been in southwest France in Toulouse, heading to the Spanish border. It is the so called "pink city" because of the colour of many brick buildings but we think the title is a bit of a stretch. We had some very good meals in Toulouse such as a warm goats cheese salad in a local bistrot and delicious pasta in an elegant, old world restaurant in Capitole Square. Lorri had her first sangria (she calls it granita,) and loved it. She...

Jun 7, 2018 - Toronto to Toulouse (TO to TO)

Wednesday and Thursday, June 6 and 7, 2018 Our trip is starting! We leave the house at 2pm for the airport and arrive at the airport at 3:30pm. We go through the automated process of getting our boarding passes and luggage tags for the flight Toronto - Montreal and then Montreal – Toulouse. After that we drop off our suitcases at an “automated” station where we put the suitcases on a belt and scan our boarding pass. The machine matches the luggage tag and the boarding pass together and the suitcase is gone! The only time we stand in line is...

Sep 21, 2017 - Castelnaudary & Bram, et. al.

9/20/17 Wednesday We picked up the boat and got under way at about 3:00 pm on 9/20/17. After 14 locks, we set pins in the bank at about 6:30 pm, drank 2 rose' bottles, ate bread and meat and cheese previously purchased at Spar market in Castlenaudry for dinner next to a field of sunflowers, with views of snow in the Perrenes mountains. What's not to like about that? And previously the lunch in Castlenaudry was incredible at restaurant recommended by LeBoat people; we ate while boat was being preped. The first 4 locks were crowded, three...

Sep 19, 2017 - Toulouse

Even getting into Montreal by 4:00pm had bad traffic dealing with construction. Parked car at hotel and took shuttle to airport. A very big airport. We boarded, flew, landed, bused to city (Tououlse) and had 3 hours to walk around prior to checkin at hotel opposite train station. Joe and Doris are due to arrive in town from London later today and connect . Tomorrow is an 8:15 am train to Castlenaudry. PS - Zena is still in Carrabassett Valley with a dog/house sitter, so the blog title is technically inaccurate for this excursion.

May 25, 2017 - Toulouse

Day 7 Thu 25 May 17 The forecast for today is a high 31 degree C and shorts are the order of dress. I showered and walked to the car park to recover my camera and to check on the car. On the return trip, while waiting for Kaye to complete dressing, I stopped briefly for a coffee and croissant. Our day in Toulouse is limited to discovering the attractions of the city centre area, but the first task was to find a Boulangerie for Kaye to have a sandwich and coffee. This task was more difficult than realised and we wandered the area around our...

Day 6 - Wed 24 May 17 Our departure for Albi and Toulouse was timed on our breakfast timing of 0830 hrs. As a consequence it was not until 0950 hrs after another pleasant breakfast, discussion with Eric and Jeanette and the settling of the account that we got away. We elected the scenic route and soon cleared Carcassonne for the slow, winding route to Albi. Once again the rich green country side and forested areas gave us great satisfaction and after a brief stop to photograph a row of plane trees, we made Albi by 1150 hrs. The city was...

Apr 13, 2014 - Day 11 – Sunday 13 April – Venice to Toulouse, France

Today was our last day in Venice. We had a relaxing morning and checked out of the Hotel Salute at 11am. We headed to the southern side of Venice and had coffee and followed up with a beautiful lunch in one of the waterside restaurants. We then took a water taxi (vaporetta) to the bus terminal. What we thought was going to be a 75 minute bus trip (from the signage) was actually only 15 minutes to the Marco Polo Airport in Venice. After getting through customs we relaxed and prepared for our 5pm, one and a half hour Air France flight to...

Oct 7, 2013 - beaches and backroads

Good-bye to Fayence and hello to the next part of this trip, heading to Toulouse, France. A group decision was made to head west for a bit and then south to the coast for a nice leisurely drive along the French Riviera. Great decision! The road took us through St. Tropez and along the waterfront, winding inland up and over the passes between towns. Lunch was a picnic out on the breakwater in Cavalaire with the sun shining down on us, a guy fishing off the end of the rocks and a slight breeze making the day perfect and fresh. Without a care...

Jan 8, 2013 - Back Again

I arrived back to a crisp and wintery Toulouse yesterday afternoon with aching back and shoulders from hauling over 30Kg of luggage through different buses, trains, airports and streets. After arriving at my flat I went shopping to pick up some essentials. The queues at the supermarket where so long that people filled the aisles and almost reached the back of the shop. With not much more than butter and a packet of vacuum packed beetroot in my fridge I was forced to join a line. After almost an hour of waiting I reached the lady behind the...
