Aug 31, 2017 - Day 11 GR10. L'Étang d'Araing to Eylie-en-Haut

Day's Overview YAY, we have now climbed AND descended one Everest (plus a bit) since we started walking 11 days ago. A relatively easy day today, although it rained the whole time and with all of the descent it made it treacherous at times. Nick walked with us today and helped with checking out the path ahead. Started in the fog/mist with a climb. By the time we were at the top our views were extremely limited. We could hear a dog barking madly and soon realised it was the famous 'patou'. The pyrenees mountain dog left to guard the sheep...

Aug 30, 2017 - Day 10 GR10. Fos to L'Étang d'Araing

PHOTOS TO BE UPLOADED WITH BETTER NETWORK Day's Overview YAY. we have now climbed one Everest (plus a bit) in altitude, since we started the walk 10 days ago. We started climbing immediately. And stopped climbing 6 hrs later ! But it was a delightful day. The first 8km was on a tiny country road and went through a couple of very cute villages. But the road was steep. We stopped for a snack break at the end of the road before we started into a wooded area, where the climbing became VERY steep. The forest was nice but the track was pretty...

Aug 29, 2017 - Day 9 GR10 Artigue to Fos

Day's Overview Had an early start as we knew it was going to be a long day. Headed off and saw the farmer and his dog herding the sheep. Carried on through a mixture of alpine farm lands and forest. Eventually had a quick drinkbstop at a shepherd's hut where much to our surprise another hiker appeared from behind. An English guy who we crossed paths with right up until lunchtime. When he disappeared out of sight. As we had our 2 hourly break further on we checked the route on the GPS (our 'au pair') as the English guy ahead seemed to be...
