Jul 29, 2011 - Toulouse-Lautrec And A Fête

July 29, 2011 I woke up at 6:00 a.m. to brilliant sunshine streaming through the open window right into Brenda’s face so I stumbled out of bed to close the shutter. The interruption apparently didn’t bother me as I went back to sleep until 9:00 (10:00 for my lovely bride). Relaxing like this is a great respite from the busy days of our trip, yet we’re still building precious memories. It was indeed a fabulous day in this piece of paradise and we enjoyed our never-tiring window view as we wrapped up our laundry. Brenda completed some light...

Jul 28, 2011 - Laundry And Comfort Food

July 28, 2011 Lynn and Glen spent the morning doing the last of their packing for their departure for Paris. Glen’s target was 10:00 a.m. and they managed 11:15, finalizing weight distribution and wine bottle protection. As we saw them off, our weeks worth of laundry was underway…as usual, I forgot to check the pockets and the first load came out with shredded Kleenex all over it. Drying on the balcony clothes line released the most of it after I had picked off the biggest chunks. We made it a lazy day with writing and reading between...

Jul 27, 2011 - A Circle Tour Of The Tarn Region

July 27, 2011 Our Wednesday morning consisted of the 3 R’s…reading, writing and arithmetic (Glen doing his accounting) with some delicious coffee and breakfast mixed in. After I had reviewed the map of the Tarn Region, I asked Glen if they had taken the northern circle around Cordes-sur-Ciel, Penne and Gorges de L’Aveyron. It turned out that they hadn’t but had been thinking they’d like to, so we locked on that as a plan for the day. Between Glen providing map navigation and our GPS providing computer-voiced commentary, we arrived at the...

Jul 26, 2011 - Leather And Wine Go With Chicken Soup

July 26, 2011 It’s always interesting to leave your window open at night for the fresh air, what with barking dogs, roosters crowing, bells ringing or doves cooing…at 5:30 this particular morning, it was a farmer loading his tractor (we think) outside our window. It must have been a complex chore because the crashing and scraping went on forever. Brenda said if it happened again the next morning, Glen and I would have to go down to help him speed things up. Misty rain was shrouding the view from our window when we finally did get up. We...

Jul 25, 2011 - Castelnau-De-Montmiral

July 25, 2011 My first order of the day on Monday morning was to get the found keys back to Europcar at the TGV station. Our hope was that should they be able to get the car and the keys together somewhere, it might mitigate our ultimate bill. After another good breakfast, we packed our bags into the new Duster and hit the road for the 460 km drive to Castelnau-de-Montmiral. Just past Nimes the sky turned threatening and by the time we neared Toulouse, it was raining in earnest. We came upon a LeClerc superstore on a roundabout in Gaillac,...
