Aug 22, 2017 - Day 2 GR10. Barèges to Lac de L'Oule. A toughie!!

Day's Overview Big day 4 mountain passes Very rough conditions Seriously steep climbing and descending. Especially at end. 1 hr of almost vertical descent Several boulder fields during day (hate them ) Nothing flat. Or if flat very rocky Magnificent scenery Filled water from mountain lakes twice as had almost run out Path closed to Refuge at end!!! Rather than go around ANOTHER lake (at least another km or 2) we went through barriers with some french guys and made it to Refuge at 19:05. Dinner served at 1900 but they allowed us to join....

Aug 21, 2017 - Day1 GR10. Luz St Sauveur to Barèges

Day's Overview Set off on time and followed the planned trail. Unfortunately it was closed at the edge of the forest with a sign saying to take an alternative route from the centre of Luz St Sauveur. So around we turned and started again. Double checked with tourist office and set off again having lost an hour! Luckily our GPS allowed us the follow the new route. Only took another couple of wrong turns but corrected them quite quickly. Stopped at a lovely mountain cafe for an icecream and fresh lemon drink. Picnic lunch further on...

Sep 6, 2009 - Bareges

Off around 9 and got about two minutes down the road when we were stopped at a roundabout to let a cycle pelaton come through. There were several groups of about 50 riders- about 300 in total , and we caught sight of a kiwi as he swept by. 20 minutes more and we were in Bagneres de luchon- a typical ski town. In front we could see an enormously long gondal lift and so parked the car and headed to the ticket office, then caught a gondala to the top. Several parapunters were lifting off as we reached the top, and gliding along the mountain...
