May 25, 2018 - Day 5 - Nancy

A very early rise at 0530 hrs, refreshed, but feeling very warm from a comfortable night temperature and our fully sealed room from road noise. We attended breakfast in the hotel at 0830hrs before clearing our room and depositing our bag with reception. We did not want a repeat of yesterday’s arrival drama’s and strolled through the city before picking up the car from the underground station. An attempt to park on the verge in front of the hotel to pick up our bags was a Monty Python moment with the police striking from behind like a viper...

Jun 14, 2016 - Day 11 cycle tour. Strasbourg to Nancy

Overview A day of rain. All day. Mostly light but occasionally heavy. At those times we managed to shelter under bridges and various other objects. We didn't get soaked but the temperature dropped so necessary to put another layer on. Finished cycling at Saverne and enjoyed a break at a patisserie/coffee shop whilst waiting for a train to Nancy . The weather was terrible and there were no cycle routes to Nancy. Lovely women in the tourist office booked Nancy accommodation for us when we had given up because everything seemed booked out....

Aug 2, 2012 - Nancy ... Cité aux Portes d'Or

Jun 20, 2011 - Hello Part 2 - Nancy

Hello, Part 2 has arrived. Yesterday, visited Nancy. We are currently based in Nancy. After breakfast, we met the rest of the group about 100 yards from the hotel. The first ones we came across were Adam and Joshua. They had rabbit the night before - Joshua liked it, Adam did not. They loved the light show that they saw and enjoyed their host family. Alex and Jessica have decided they will cry when they leave their host in France. Joshua and Christopher are living on top of a school and think that is cool. Chauncey and Dr. Bruce are with a...

Nov 6, 2010 - Nancy

We plan on visiting three sites today: the Memorial de l’Alsace-Moselle , the Natzwieler-Struthof Concentration Camp, and finally one of the site of the Maginot Line before going to Nancy. The Memorial de l’Alsace-Moselle is staggering. We go the base but as it’s also a museum and we decide not to go in. Instead we move onto where the actual Natzwieler-Struthof Concentration Camp actually is. First is the museum having depictions of every Nazi Concentration and Extermination camp. We unfortunately now know the difference between the two. We...

Jun 29, 2004 - Made it to Holland!

`Hello friends, We finally made to Liz's Uncle Derrick and Aunt Lindy in Verhout, The Netherlands. We had started to feel like their home was the Holy Grail and would remain just out of reach forever! People - particularly the Dutch - tell you that Holland is a small country. Well, they have never seen it from the seat of a bicycle! There exists a very sophisticated and extensive system of bicycle paths that go EVERYWHERE and people truly use them. But finding one's way is tough, and there are no straight lines to ANYWHERE! Here in Holland...
