Oct 10, 2006 - The Camargue

In the afternoon, Ted, Karen, Lilian and Ron drove to the Camargue. The Camargue is a large wetland on the delta of the Rhone River as it enters the Mediterranean Sea. Most of the Camargue is a protected natural area, and home to wild bulls and white horses. It is also a popular migration destination for large flocks of pink flamingos. Local cowboys are called Guardians, and have patrolled the Camargue for centuries. We stopped at the Pont de Gau bird sanctuary, which had been highly recommended by Ted's ornithologist friend Peter Blank....
