Aug 12, 2009 - Montpellier

Continuing along the highway southwest we head toward Montpellier. The weather is now hovering between 35 and 40! Traffic is busy but good. We are now alerted to the challenges of staying in the 'old districts' and decide to bypass all of the phone calls etc and simply locate the nearest public parking lot nearest our hotel. We arrive hot and tired but to a renovated hotel on the main square with ample air conditioning. Montpellier was more a base for touring rather than a location in itself. A big university town with lots of kids and bars...

Jul 7, 2009 - Le Tour De France

Hi from Le Tour De France! We got a surprise when we arrived at the car hire place in Paris and were told there was only one car available (and we had booked and paid 6 months ahead!!!). It was a teeny weeny two seater smart car- you can probably imagine the looks on our faces! We had little option but to take it, and luckily our luggage fitted in- just! Aaron has done a brilliant job driving us safely from Paris to Lyon (where we stayed overnight), then onto Marseille for two nights, and Montpellier for two nights. We didn’t see another...

Wow ! Ciao !

Jul 12, 2008 - Montpellier for the weekend(or not!!!)

Took the train to Montpellier for the weekend to hang out on the beach with 2 friends I met in Paris, Alex and Ali. 42.50 euro rountrip SNCF. When Alex and Ali picked me up at the train station they told me that we weren't going to the beach, but instead going to Barcelona. At first I thought they were pulling my leg, but I soon realized as we were passing by the signs that they weren't. We arrived in Barcelona about 4 hours later and checked into the Best Western Premier and pain 45 euro a piece. We walked around the city for a bituntil...

Jul 4, 2008 - ...continued

We then drove the rest of the way, about 2 ½ hours, on Friday morning and met up with Patricia at her recently purchased apartment in Perols, a “suburb” of Montpellier. It was so great to see her after our first brief encounter 11 years ago. After talking about it and refreshing my memory, here’s the skinny on how we know each other: I was working the last flight of the night in baggage claim for Delta in Boise. She shows up at the counter, missing her luggage, unable to speak much English. It was obvious she was tired, confused and a...

May 9, 2008 - France

So now I am in France. I travel so much that I have gotten bored of it. But now I am in a new country. A place that I have never been before. So I am awaiting a new adventure. I update my friends and we exchange news. When I am not doing that, I ( sadly ) do homework. Many people ask how I keep with my studies while I am away , and I always give them the same answer. " My mom makes me " . Then they ask if I speak french. I just say that we learn it at school. Most the time they are satified with that, the ones that aren't ask "Well what do...

My Travels

May 8, 2008 - Arrival in Montpellier

And they’re off! Well – sort of, that is. Our journey was uneventful but the beginning (with the Air Canada flight from Vancouver) was a bit iffy. The plane didn’t seem to want to start, which meant there was no air-conditioning (pretty hot and stuffy) when we boarded and no lights. In fact, the lights above us didn’t come on for the whole flight, and the tray table in front of me was broken and kept falling down on my knees (and once it fell on to Bruce’s head just as he was nodding off and then his head fell off his own table, but let's...

Sep 23, 2007 - Australia vs Fiji

Game was good but the Party at the Aussie Bar after (Ayers Rock Cafe) was unbelievable. Barmen dancing on the bar, and then lighting it on fire...... crazy I had to wait until 6am to get the first morning tram home. Once home I could not remember the code to get into the building and had to proceed to climb onto the roof and into the second floor window.

RUGBY WORLD CUP

Sep 20, 2007 - Montpellier

The French have voted this the city most would like to live in. I can see why. There are old historic buildings blending in with modern, interlaced with parks and fountains. This city was the highlight of my tour. As well as boozing it with some of the Wallabies we also had perfect weather the entire time.

Jun 11, 2006 - Bored

hi...we are at an internet cafe right now in Montpellier France waiting for our next train to leave for Nice....nothing better to do to kill some time than be on the internet. Last night we went out with 2 people we met in Valencia that were staying in Barcelona and a girl from Canada who was staying in our room. The area we went to was pretty cool, there were about 5 differnt clubs on the roof of the mall all in an open area. We definitely got our dance on last night. We were laughing at their choice of American songs from the 80s with a...
