Nov 8, 2005 - Paris
PARIS The hotel that was arranged for us was way out by Disneyland Paris; the city was sold out due to Fashion Week. Instead of schlepping 35 minutes in and out of Paris, my colleagues called around to find a hotel in the city. That was no small task, but after a couple of hours on the phone we finally found one with a vacancy. To my surprise it was a youth hostel! I'm ashamed to say this was my first time ever sleeping in a youth hostel, but I was excited for the experience. 18TH ARRONDISSEMENT This hostel is located in the 18th...

Nov 7, 2005 - Paris, France
November 7 - Off to France. It was only a quick 1 1/2 hour train to Paris. We came in with low expectations of Paris based on past conversations and stereotypes in our heads. It started out true when the folks on our train were on their cell phone the whole time and the woman's breath was a horrific concoction of cigarettes and coffee. Then we got into Paris and found out our hand picked hotel didn't have laundry as advertised. The advertisement actually meant there was laundry nearby! We couldn't check in yet, so we left our bags and began...

Where to start!!! Paris is an amazing city and surprisingly the French were very nice to us too!!! The architecture is incredible! We did all the tourist things like Arc de Triomphe which is beautiful. I've seen a lot of copies around Europe (it seems every big city has one)but nothing compares to the original! We saw the Eiffel Tower which was just amazing from every where we saw it. From far away the tower looks so small but then when you're right there it's huge! Of course we had to see the tower at night and it is absolutely amazing!...

Oct 24, 2005 - Paris... the final adventure
Well this is it, the last destination on this long, wonderful trip. Upon reaching Paris, we were not sorry that we only had to lug our backpacks one more time... to the airport to go home. Especially now that they were getting heavier instead of lighter with things that we had bought for the upcoming holidays. I was really excited for Ali to show my around the city since she has spent a good amount of time there and loves it so much. We decided to take a leisurely approach to our time in Paris, only going to see a sight and a have a wander...

Oct 14, 2005 - Bordeux
Well as mentioned prior, we wnet to Bordeux for a night and what an amazing city it is. Picturesque is to say the least and it's wines, well, it is known for those wines. We found that it was a very pleasant city where people did want to help, although we found that the people that did help weren't originally from France...go figure...anyway, we spent the day and the night which was pretty quite as it doesn't get the tourists that Paris gets etc and it has a charm that matches any great city as it's ambience is truly something you have to...

made it to paris by train-barely. the train stopped and didn't move for about an hour or so, then moved a a few feet and stopped again. then they dumped the entire train and we had to transfer to another one! but we made it. we won't talk about the mugging in paris the first night...we'll just post some pretty pictures. paris is absolutely gorgeous, especially at night. and it's just like new york-you can find something open regardless of what time of night it is. p.s. if ever in paris-do not stay at the hotel andre gill-on pain of death!

Learning French has turned out to be the opposite of my teenage experience. Who ever thought it was a good idea to lock a whole bunch of hormonal teenagers in a room for two hours and try to ram a foreign language down there throats? Ridiculous, much better to do it with a bunch of hormonal grown ups and then get them to pay for the privilege. In fact the process of learning French in Paris is becoming very rewarding, so much so that I have decided to stay until at least the end of the month. I can actually conjugate verbs now and for...

Oct 5, 2005 - M: Paris, La Vie en Rose
The most wonderful thing about being in France is the delicious museums, the wonderfully stinky cheese, the foie gras, croissants and hot chocolate (which incidentally is made with thick, melted chocolate and hot milk, in which you can add your favorite liquor -Amaretto, Cointreau or Grand Marnier). There are of course less than wonderful things about being in France: the modified keyboard, so you have to go back and correct your typos (the a and q, z and w keys are reversed), and you have to look an eternity for all the special signs,...

Oct 2, 2005 - Paris...
Hi all... Seeing as poor Nez has an aversion to the keyboards here (and ALOT of time to use up on a phonecard) you get to hear from me again... I'll try to give you a vague overview of both of our impressions of Paris.. I think we are getting the hang of it. We were both struggling to get used to everything that was so different and unfamiliar about here, and we might just be getting there.. Our first night in Paris was an experience. We wandered the streets to get to the Champs Elyees (excuse my spelling of anything French - it's even...

Sep 28, 2005 - Paris....toujours de quoi à faire!
This week Lisa and I headed to Paris for two days. Lisa had never been so we did the usual touristy things...the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees, Notre Dame and to end it all a boat cruise on the Seine. Which almost didn't happen because we went on the last one and the only other people who had bought tickets were a Spanish couple that seemed more interested in making out than seeing Paris at night. But we had a good time and i provided my own insightful commentary to make up for the guides lack of enthusiasm. We also did a...

Goodnight, Europe! That was a good time, expensive and entirley unworthy of the money we've poured into it, but nice enough. Sinse the last update, we made our way to Lisbon, only spent one night there before heading onwards to Madrid. Sound familiar? well, yes we had already been there, but the bus loop required us a revistit and we didn't complain. This time we stayed in the cheapest hostel in Spain and one that probably has the most, ummm character? A man names Peppy met us on the street and took us to his little corner of dereliiiicte....
