Aug 7, 2014 - Arrival in France

We finally touched down this morning at 7am Paris time, after a very long 24 hours flight. I think between us we have gotten about 10 hours sleep, but we're both very excited and had the adrenalin pumping after we landed. The flight was mostly smooth, with some bumps around Java, and then in the bay of Bengal. The bay was a little worse than normal, but in a plane the size of the 380, it smooths them out a bit. We got our luggage without too much fuss. The only challenge was seeing the bags on the conveyor belt, as all of the passengers...

Aug 25, 2012 - Vaux-le-Vicomte

This morning I woke up very, very early due to some evil jet lag, and couldn't wait for time to pass. I got moving fairly quickly. To start the day off, I had to do a 3 point turn in a very narrow street, driving in a European car. It was very disorientating to say the least. It also reminded me how lazy I had become with rear parking sensors (no I didn't hit anything). From there I got out of town and onto the (toll) freeways, heading to a small town called Melun. Melun is in the area of Ile de Cite (the same as Paris and Versailles)...

Nov 9, 2010 - Melun

We leave for Troyes, the city that gave us the ‘Troy ounce’, but first we drive around in Reims, pronounced Rhance with a nasal sound at the end. It’s a difficult word to pronounce. It is not especially picturesque, but we decide to find something of interest as this is center of the champagne production area. So, we go to Mumm’s Champagne (which is pronounced moom) where it has been produced since 1827. We arrive just in time to join three gals from Boston for a tour. The tour guide is wonderful, full of life, and tells us about: the...

Sep 29, 2007 - Paris - We`re here!

Smooth traveling to France - remind us to tell you the stories about exploding luggage and Holly's pet goat. The rest of the Paris entries includes the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dome, the catacombs (can't resist a good cemetery) a night cruise on the Seine and a dinner tonight tres elegante. Au revoir! 10/06/07 New entries start with #12; parking looks chaotic, gas is extremly expensive and Paris driving looks like a distressing "adventure"); With no reason to rent a car here, we take the Metro everywhere; it's clean, cheap, safe and runs...
