-With our preferred cheap option of Formule1 full, we settled for the slighty pricy, but pleasant, Tip Top Hotel. - Dinner was at the nearby Carrefour supermarket, consisting of a tasty crepe and good cheap beer. -We settled down for an early night in anticipation of a long drive the following day.

Feb 24, 2005 - Epernay (Champagne region)

Arrived this afternoon...big, fat snowflakes this time. This town is really beautiful, even in the cold blue light of winter. It's funny how accustomed we are to walking everywhere now. We don't miss our cars too much because the scenery is so nice! French people don't open up as quickly as Americans or Spaniards. After a few feeble attempts at French or a kir royale they open up and the smile begins in the eyes. We have been trying to find news of home, but the best we can do is read the international paper printed by the New York Times....

May 10, 2004 - Reims - Not Pronounced Like it Sounds

Well, it looks like I made it out of Paris without injury. I am spending the day in Reims (pronounced Rance, rhymes with France, don't ask me why). Reims is home to a stunning cathedral and most of France's major champagne houses. Veuve Cliquot, Taittinger, Mumm, Maxims, et al are here. I wanted to tour a couple of them, but I only had time for one, and I found Taittinger first. I can now tell you everything there is to know about champagne making.
