Aug 26, 2018 - Stage 2 Chalons en Champagne to St Dizier

Overview/ Highlights we rode a lot of today beside the canals, except the middle section where we rode on local roads through farming land. We have left the champagne vineyards behind us now. First stop today was Vitry Le Francois at 34km. The sun was shining brightly and we parked our bikes under the town square trees and had a coffee in one of the cafes facing the square. We are not the only ones. A group of guys on motorbikes also thought it was a great place for a coffee break. After a suitable rest, on we rode, back on the canal...

Aug 26, 2018 - Day 2 - Chalons to St Dizier

Today the perfectly manicured champagne vineyards are behind us - just a memory. Instead we rode through farming country or (au contraire) with water to the left, or water to the right, or water on both sides. This is aquatic highway canal country and mostly very flat. The building of these canals must have been at the time major projects much like our 8-Lane highways. How they built them by hand, with picks and shovels, seems a miracle.
