Sep 19, 2011 - le 16 septembre

le 16 septembre alas, it is my last day in bordeaux. i am sorry that i haven’t written as of late, but i was just soaking in all that Bordeaux has to offer. Bordeaux is a beautiful city. yet i don’t think that i will search it out again. not because of anything bad, just because there are other cities in France that i would still like to experience. my classes ended well. the prof was much better come wednesday. yet i have to say with talking with other students from the school, BLS, I find that we all thought that it lacked something. for...

Sep 12, 2011 - second week of class

le 12 september I started class today with a completely different joie de vivre than last week. First, I knew where the school was and second, I knew what to expect; both good things. So i make it to school in time to even buy un coca cola along the way. ( a thing necessary for me to survive three hours of french). New students arrive each Monday, but since I am not, I go to my class. When I peek my head in at 9:30 there are maybe 6/6 faces that I have yet to see for the first time. hmm... so I start to go down the stairs and find gregoire,...

Sep 11, 2011 - Dimanche le 11

Ten years ago today, Kevin and I were sitting at les deux maggots in Paris, when we overheard another talking about the twin towers. We had just been in NYC three weeks prior, so I was all ears. A very sad day for the United States. Fast forward to a France 2011, where everyone has a phone at all times and I am in Bordeaux. Bordeaux is a beautiful city, with a lot of history, but much smaller than Paris. So many things have changed. It has been four years since I have been in Paris. I don’t know if the changes I see are because I am in a...

Sep 9, 2011 - vendredi le 9

Vendredi, le 9, First may I start with, I made a friend!!! even two:) Yes, I went far out of my comfort zone and basically forced myself on Dirotto, a lovely woman from Bologna. I have to back up again and ask, was I the last person to realize how great an IPod is??? Having Kevin, who is our resident so-nos expert, along with David, our resident IT expert, and now Callie who won’t be left behind, we have music going constantly at our house. Alas, there is no need for mom’s playlist of Danes Zanes on the dock. Dock, what is a dock when you...

Sep 8, 2011 - Third and Fourth day

I am now changing the way that I am writing. I typed away for an hour yesterday with what I thought of as witty and funny things, but when i went to save it, it told me that my time had run out. alas, i lost it all. ( and still have an essay to write). I will try again to make my story funny, but i don’t think that i succeeded the first time and to now have to do it again... way too much pressure for me. Monday night was full of adventure a la maison. John, who needed help putting a pen cap on, decided that he would do yoga??? Yes he did,...

Sep 6, 2011 - second day of class

bonjour tout le monde. Sorry that I haven't blogged much. I live about a half hour from the school, by bus. I leave at 8:00 in the morning and haven't been returning until dinner at 8:00. Also, the level of French that I have been thrown into leaves me exhausted at the end of the day. I don't bring the computer with me to school, because I don't want to carry it with me all day and so when I have a chance to type, sleep wins out. Where did I leave off? ahh my baggage. My baggage arrived Sunday. I had packed some treats from the states for...

Sep 3, 2011 - First day

Bonsoir mes gen-Just typing to let you know that I made it to Bordeaux. Besides for a moment when I thought about taking the $750 voucher to leave a day later, the ride was fairly uneventful. Those who know that I would rarely pass up a voucher of that size will know how scared I was that I would take it and not get back on the plane. My seat was in the last row of the plane, an aisle seat. I finished my book, which is the second time that has happen this year and both within a few weeks of each other. What does that say? I sat next to a...

Sep 24, 2007 - Ugh, Monday... But Off to Bordeaux!

Did I mention breakfast the last few days? Ok, NOT my favorite meal so far. The hostel serves the absolute BASIC necessities to sustain life, and if you want to live, you need to get your rear in gear between the hours of 6:30am and 8:30am. I'm like "Where's the sausage, bacon and hash browns??" Hah! They don't exist... What breakfast DID consist of was 1 plain yogurt, 1 4oz. glass of juice (orange and some other juices I couldn't identify) 1 croissant, 1 roll (it could have been used as a mallet) 2 1oz servings of jam, 2 pats of butter,...

Sep 23, 2007 - Goodbye Paris!

Well, it's Sunday evening. We had a wonderful weekend in Paris; it was so much fun and so good to see Leonore! Being a native of this beautiful city, she proved to be a wonderful tour guide to Montmartre. Had we had more time to explore this city, I would have LOVED to see The Louvre, some of the cathedrals and the catacombs that are underneath the city among the other gazillion places I'd love take a look at. Dani and I had to get back to our hostel so that we could pack. We planned to leave the hostel FIAP Jean Monnet around 10:00am to...
