Jun 3, 2016 - Leanne meet up

Bike repairs Took Patricia's car today to collect Leanne and her bike from Montbard and take it to 'my' bike shop. Her gears were not shifting well. The guy there was happy to fix it and he put a stand on her bike at the same time. So now she's better setup for touring We had a little trip to the supermarket to get picnic food for tomorrow then a tea in a local hotel/cafe in Venarey. Dropped her back at her hotel and headed back to Semur. A call to Orange to work out why my prepaid internet access is not working at night and I discovered...

Jun 1, 2016 - Course de la Bague

Tue 31st May The annual horse race festival day in Semur La Course de la Bague This race first started in the 1600s so despite the rain I had to see it. And rain it did!! There was at least a km of market stall holders along both sides of the street that ran beside the 'race course'. A lovely tree lined dirt / mud surfaced avenue, leading to the centre of town. In the past when I've stayed with Patricia I've run along this avenue, dodging those out walking their dogs, running or generally going for a stroll. Today was certainly different...

May 30, 2016 - A wet day in Semur-en-Auxois

How to amuse yourself on a wet day. Take the camera out and appreciate things of beauty. Wet or dry ! I also managed to be productive with getting a French SIM for my phone ( and found the guy in the PO and then the guy in the little kiosk in town particularly helpful in helping me find the best card for me and my phone) Visited the tourist info for maps and bus timetable Contacted Spain re a tricky bus trip to start my Spanish walk in Sept.

May 29, 2016 - hello hello... Anyone home??? :-)

Sat 28 and Sun 29th May Serious rain Sat morning but luckily stopped by time I had to catch train. Collected Matt from station as he was home for weekend from his (mandatory) Swiss army training. He looked so different in uniform. It was great to see him again. Other boys were away at a music festival. French trains on strike so wasn't clear if my train to Dijon would be running but all was OK. Patricia collected me from Montbard with my bike in the back of her car. Really handy as we could take it straight to the bike shop for a service...

Nov 2, 2014 - Quiet days in and around Semur

Due to my sore back I've stayed fairly sedentary over the last couple of days - spent time helping Patricia revise and refresh text and photos of her rental houses on the internet. Marketing definitely isn't my forté!! Sun 2nd Nov - went for drive in afternoon to show Patricia some areas I loved on my bike ride that she hadn't previously heard about. - I learnt the fields of flowers I'd seen were there to add nutrients to the soil and rest them from crops - revisited the wonderful fountain and laundry area at Santigny and Patricia...

20 -26 oct 2014 Spent several days at home just generally taking it easy and helping with things around Patricia's house. Had some foggy mornings but mostly the days have been nice even if cooler. Been for a couple of runs which means some steep climbs at parts in this town. Went to the local produce market in Montbard early one morning for our fruit, veges , cheeses and meat. Got some gluten free bread that could be used perfectly well as a hammer! My friend Sue arrived from the UK on Fri night and the 3 of us when for a cycle and...

Oct 8, 2014 - Burgundy here I come! No time for photos today

Wed 8th. Burgundy here I come! Highlights - Anne got up as early as me to drive me to the airport. Left home at 6am. She is a saint! - new luggage arrangement passed EireLingus rules - whilst changing flights in Heathrow BA didn't like my hand baggage arrangement and put it in the hold. But at least they didn't charge me 62 CHF this time!!! So all was fine - at Paris airport I found a direct bus to the Gare de Lyon vs 2 trains to get there so I was very happy. - TGV to Montbard where my friend Patricia met me and took me to her house in...
