Jun 29, 2016 - A foray to the Forges of Buffon

A pleasant day of walking Took a small day pack and a picnic and walked along the canal de Bourgogne ... In the opposite direction to when we cycled it. It felt nice to be ba k in the canal again , saying hello to fishermen and the few cyclists along the way. Also those on boats. Walked about 8 km to the famous forges of Buffon built in the 1770s. I arrived there just after their last entry before lunch so I went to a nice spot on the canal and had my picnic lunch and read my book for 3 hrs until they opened again. Spent a nice hour...

Jun 28, 2016 - An unexpected encounter in Montbard

A nice sleep in then decided to organise my bike foot pump and 2 (now empty) panniers to be sent back to Switzerland. I won't be using them in Ireland. On the way to the post office to enquire about the best way to send them, I saw a large folded cardboard box protruding from someone's recycling bin. So I availed myself of it and carried it around with me until the PO reopened at 1:30pm. I'm sure everyone thought I was crazy carrying this big carton (it had contained a washing machine) and was sure I was looking for somewhere to dump...

Jun 27, 2016 - Back to France again.

A relocation day Terry dropped me at the train station. Caught the TGV to Dijon then a local train to Montbard Started chatting with a man in Dijon, who had been walking with a pack. He suggested I walk the Louis Stevenson trail but hire a donkey or llama to carry my gear. I thought that rather amusing. Checked into hotel de la Gare at Montbard and collected my backpack and bag that Patricia had kindly left there a few days earlier as she had to go away.
