Jul 4, 2016 - Start of Tour - Train Ride to Dijon then Bus to Chalon sur Saone for the start of River Cruise Ship

Today we had to be organised as we had to put our suitcases out the door by 7.30am. There are apparently 80 approx. of our tour here at this Hotel so you can imagine all the bags to be ticked off. France won the soccer last night so there is big celebrations going on. When we went down to breakfast there were American serviettes, flags - July 4 for Independence Day. We will just take our time this morning as we do not have to leave our room until 12pm, and then have to get our bus outside the Hotel at 1pm, then the train, another bus and...

Sep 1, 2015 - Beaune

We woke to rain again this morning and it has rained off and on all day. Sometimes quite heavily. We went for breakfast and met some more people we had not spoken to before. We went on a bus to Beaune where we visited a hospital dating back 550 years. It was in use till the 1960s. It was quite interesting seeing it done up the way it was a couple of hundred years ago. We walked round other parts of the town, trying to keep dry. We were then left on our own for an hour or so. We took some photos, but elected to spend most of it in a cafe...

Aug 31, 2015 - Trains & Boats and Buses

We were up early this morning and downstairs for breakfast. We collected our hand luggage and checked out then waited for the buses to take us to Gare de Lyon for the TGV to Dijon. They soon came and we boarded and drove through thick traffic down Opera, after which it was a bit easier and we reached the station in plenty of time for the train which we boarded. We had a good run to Dijon where we parked right by Darcy Place, and Darcy Park. (Darcy is our son-in-law's name). We walked into the old town with the guide who explained a number...

Apr 29, 2014 - Avallon to Chalon-sur-Saone

Solo Ride - Day 6 When I woke up this morning the sky was blue and clear but, by the time I had finished breakfast and packed the bike, the overcast was back. With a temperature of 7C I dressed in my waterproof jacket but left off the bootees and pants. For the first time in this ride I saw the name of my destination on a road sign just metres from my hotel. The main road D906 leads straight to Chalon-sur Saone. I set off, following the route, along D906 and soon came across an unusual statue. This commemorates St Germain and St Magnance...

Jul 22, 2012 - A 4-train day

After a very nice breakfast in our little Murten hotel, we carried our luggage back to the train station (7 min. walk) in plenty of time for our 11:04 train to Neuchatel. We watched fields of grains and sunflowers speed by. Had 7 min. to get from this train to our next train to Lausanne, Switzerland. (So glad our conductor had told us which platform we needed to find in 9 min. to get on our first French high speed train (TGV) to Dijon.) The TGV was crowded and rather old but fine. Unexpectedly they served us a cold lunch about 1:15 that was...
