May 18, 2008 - St. Mere Eglise to Utah Beach to Pont du Hoc to Vierville su Mer

From St Mere Eglise, we drove to Utah Beach and took the cross country route, over country roads and close to the farm buldings and livestock. Not too many tourists drive this way; however, we weren't really lost...we just wanted to see the sights and we had the trusty GPS so we always knew our location. It remained cold and very windy, which is pretty routine for Normandy. Trees permanently blown sideways give an idea of the harsh climate and how difficult the Allied landing must have been. The museum is worthy of a stop and buy the museum...

May 18, 2008 - Omaha Beach, Memorial and Cemetery

Although we were unable to stay long at the Omaha Beach area, Memorial and American Cemetery, this area is not to be missed if you go to Normandy. There are several museums, many monuments, markers, and other Allied cemeteries close by. You can drive along the beach before going to any of the sites, but the highlight of this area certainly must be the American Memorial and actual graves, all very well known through photos. Reunited 2008

Mar 2, 2008 - Normandy/Pointe du Hoc & Omaha Beach

We woke up the following morning and jumped on the bus and met up with our tour guide, Major General Graham Hollands. He is a retired 2-star General from the British Army and stood 6'6" tall! I thought he was going to be quite an imposing figure but he could not have been more sweet and funny. He was so interesting to listen to and he just drew you into his stories. You can absolutely see why he was made a General. We started off towards the D-Day beaches and on the way he gave us an overview of what had happened leading up to D-Day. Our...
