Dec 8, 2013 - Strasbourg

Saturday morning I enjoyed another taxi to the station this morning with a chatty driver. I was plenty early and got on the high speed train to Strasbourg. It was a quick and quiet ride (2hr 20min). The day was overcast, and there was evidence of rain last night. On arrival in Strasbourg, I decided to take the tram into the center and find my hotel. Should have taken my own advice and got a taxi! It being Saturday, the tram was quite crowded, and the crowds continued once I got off. If Paris had a Christmas Market, Strasbourg on the weekend...

Dec 7, 2013 - Strasbourg, France

Today we are off on a day trip to Strasbourg, France. We heard they have a huge Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market). We took the back roads to avoid the many toll roads on the autoroutes of France. The back country was beautiful with a dusting of snow on the rolling hills and the little towns we traveled though. One thing that we came to realize was that there weren't any gas stations in these towns, which meant no place for a potty stop. We were desperate and had to do like the locals do and pull off along the road side and just go. Our...

Apr 5, 2013 - Strasbourg, France

We stayed up an partied a little late last night, but managed to go catch some breakfast and then jumped on the tour bus to Strasbourg. Our guide was a very colorful (and loud) French girl (managed to sleep a little on the bus anyway!). It was bitter cold in Strasburg, but an interesting city. We walked to the Cathedral - quite a hike and us Americans were getting a little nervous about where the bathrooms were. There is only one set of public restrooms in this town. Quite impressive though. The attendant lady cleans each toilet seat after...

Oct 12, 2012 - Day 6 Rhine River-Strasbourg France - Black Forest

Our day started off a little late. Last night they closed down the Rhine due to the fact that there had been heavy rains and the river rose 2 meters in 6 hrs. Which is almost 6 1/2 ft. We were supposed to leave Speyer at 10:30 pm but we left at 5:30 am this morning. The river is moving fast and it is actually the first time I can say I have felt the boat moving. Because of this we had to dock at a different place and then take an hour bus ride into Strasbourg France. We had about an hour walking tour and then time on our own to eat lunch in...

Jul 18, 2012 - Strasbourg, France

My exploration of this pretty city started with a canal cruise on the L'ill River. Lots of bridges all decorated with flowers; modern buildings related to the European Union; views of lovely mansions and Tudor-style buildings. (Ivan skipped the cruise and did more walking along the canals.) We then walked around the old city soaking up the half-timber ambiance, seeing the street of tanners and the beautiful cathedral (Cathedrale de Notre Dame). In this church we saw the Astronomical Clock, at one time the 7th wonder of the world. We watched...

Jun 9, 2012 - Strasbourg

Friday morning I slept in a little, then set off for my last car day. My first stop was the Post Office to send off some shopping and things I won’t need for the rest of the trip. Pricey, but much better than trying to carry it all. It is too easy to accumulate when you have the car to carry it! There were no major sights today, just a meandering drive, lunch, a couple of shopping/looking stops and then to the Strasbourg airport to turn in the car. I think ‘Sylvia’ was feeing rejected—she gave me some really loopy directions a couple of...

France Road Trip

Jun 7, 2012 - Strasbourg

Headed east again today to arrive at Strasbourg. We are staying at a B&B about 3km from town. After checking in and collecting some maps and info we caught the tram into the centre. Strasbourg, along with Geneva and New York, are the only cities in the world which are home to international institutions without being national capitals. The European council is in Strasbourg. The dominating landmark is the Strasbourg cathedral, an outstanding masterpiece of Gothic art. The construction of the Romanesque cathedral, of which only the crypt and...

Feb 24, 2012 - Strasbourg

Strasbourg This is truely a most enchanting town, around every corner there hides a surprise. I could easily spend a few days here, just discovering hidden nooks n crannies. We had a great weather day, well at least it got to around 11 degrees at one stage, seems to be warmer around 5pm ! Our choosen method of travelling was by tram, bus to the outskirts and barge, no buses or trains in the centre. I have to say the French really are gits!! - Soooo arrogant, everything seems to be a major ordeal for them, they are not kind to tourists,...

Feb 23, 2012 - Shanes Request

Greetings Shane :) Here are the camper shots you wanted, also some camping grounds so far. Can't find cybermen, will look later. We are in Strasburg now, its foggy n cold, on the way down here we saw water running down a mountain that turned into giant frozen ice droplets and frozen over rivers. We shall venture out into the town centre when the temp gets a bit higher than the current 3 degree's, we are coping well when its around 10 degrees, but that's about our tolerance level so far.

Nov 30, 2011 - Strasbourg, France

After an always fun Autobahn trip for a few hours we crossed the bridge from Germany to France. It was a strange experience crossing over a bridge and suddenly everything is in another language. Since we planned this location the night before we didn't have any accommodations for the night so that was our first task at hand. After finding a cafe with free wifi we looked for a hotel with vacancy. While the Victoria Garden was far from glamorous, it served our needs for one night. The city of Strasbourg, in the Alsace region of France, was...
