Jun 9, 2016 - The Route des Cretes (Crest Road) and Grand Ballon

The weather was forecast to be good so we headed into the Vosges Mountains to drive the Route des Cretes or Crest Road. This road was built for strategic purposes by the French during World War I to facilitate the movement of munitions and supplies. According to our guide book “it is a spectacular road traversing thick forest and open pasture.” Our guide book was not wrong. We started from the south heading north from Cernay. May 18, 2011 - Day four of Alsace bike ride - Guebwiller

Day 4 was to Guebwiller (40km) so and easy day really. We got to the hotel by 3pm which meant we could spend time looking around and enjoying the local beverages. We needed the break. The town dates from the Middle Ages and was lovely. All the half wood houses and cobble stone streets. Lots of lovely expensive shops. Good for walking around and using other muscles (and resting the sore bits).
