ah yes we had just arrived in Tampere. ... On our first day we decide to hire a car for our trip, which over a long weekend is a harder task then ever imagined and takes us a few hours each day of searching around Tampere to arrange, but in between we manage to fit in a few fun Finnish activities :) We wonder the city centre and soak in the sights of the town, its was an industrial hub back in the day, big grey buildings with cascading smoke towers. ... We are excited to discover that there are still reminents of winter all around us and that we can still find ice and snow so we cut the sightseeing short to spend our days experiencing as much winter fun as humaly possible! Tampere is surrounded by two huge lakes so we take the oppertunity to wonder on the frozen ice, walk through the near by forests and to try ice fishing. ...

The train to Tampere was untra modern luxery, there was even a socket in the seat for ear plugs so that you can listen to the local radio stations. ... I walked through Tampere to my hostel and saw a reasonably pretty and clean, if unexceptional town. ... Tampere is situated on a small peninsular on land between two large lakes, but this is not obvious when you walk through the town as there is a cordon of forest between the town and the lakes. ...
