La unica forma de ir de Gondar a Axum, aparte de volar, era en bus, y termino siendo el "bus from hell". ... A mi me dijeron que parecia Jean Claude van Damme (por lo fuerte) y a Caroline le dijeron que su "esposo" (o sea, yo!) era muy simpatico!! Despues de mucho sufrimiento y olores feos, llegamos a Shire, y tomamos una combi de una hora a Axum. ... Axum estaba poblado desde el siglo 10 antes de Cristo, cuando la mismisima Reina de Sheba (la que sedujo al Rey Salomon y su hijo fue Menelik, el primer rey de Etiopia) construyo su palacio alli. ... Luego a partir del siglo 1 DC se fundo la ciudad propiamente dicha y fue la capital del Imperio Axumita, el mas importante de la region hasta los siglos 6-7 DC. ... Despues fuimos a ver el campo de estelas, unas estelas de piedra gigantes, una de las cuales mide 33m y es el monumento monolitico mas grande del mundo, que marcaban las tumbas de los personajes importantes del Imperio Axumita. ...
